Sporting News Report on CCG

Wow. I heard rumors but I thought it was just a rumor. CCG would never leave GT would he?

This is all just bizzare. I know that Chan has coached in Alabama three times, for Samford, Troy State and the Birmingham Fire in the USFL, but he has no ties that I know of to the University of Alabama itself. I just cannot see any reason that he would leave Tech for a school that's had five coaches in eight years. Alabama even has a worse recruiting class than GT this year, while their fans still expect infinitely more than GT's fans expect.

I'm so perplexed at how somebody, somewhere in the Bama organization dropped him as a serious name. I guess they just think Bama is best coaching job in the football world and that nobody would ever turn it down.

Bizzare indeed!
Just what the hell is going on??

Oh well we need to be worrying about more important things like the ACC Championship game in 5 days.

Hypothetical question for the hypothetical situation of CCG leaving for AL: If CCG leaves does CJT go with him?

If he left, I would get a BIG laugh! But, it WON'T happen,.......and for that I am thankful.

HAHAHA! Let him go and have Bama lose 6 straight to Auburn! He would get canned after losing 2 just like Curry. What a joke.

I believe Curry was offered an extension but refused it for whatever reason. The diehard bammers I know hate him for both coaching at Tech and for his brick through a window story, but I do know he was offered an extension.

Curry's new contract offer included a clause saying the AD had veto power over his assistants (supposedly because they wanted him to get rid of Don Lindsay). That's why Curry bolted from Alabama.

Is the idiot making this statement the same one who called Chan the worst coach in football last year?
I am sure Chan could take a number of jobs, but I believe he is a GT man until he retires.

Nope, that was SI's Stewie Mandel, a guy paid more on volume and less on argument.

Bigger question is how many of our verbals go with him. None I hope.

unfortunately...we (Tech fans) are somewhat delusional.

The coaching community sees Georgia Tech as an extremely difficult place to win games...therefore the bowl streak, the streak of conf. records at .500 or better, the potential 11 win season....are all seen as remarkable.

Why? They know that recruiting just happens at the big state schools...they can not name a head coach at all and stumble into a Top 25 recruiting class. They have zero academic standards....they only have to meet NCAA standards and if they don't just sent them to a prep school and let them come back one year later. To top it off, we freak out if players get in off the field trouble expecting them to be angels.

I remember O'Leary getting aggravated at alumni at one gathering and he said..."I will tell you the problem with you guys....you expect us to be Harvard Monday through Friday and FSU on Saturdays."

...and bottom line there are less than a handful of "can't miss" coaches....so anyone is a crap shoot. The carousel is just done to keep tickets selling and donations pouring in.

I am NOT saying it can't be done at GT...it is just a lot of extra work in the eyes of coaches. Thankfully, CG believes GT is the right place for him because he values the same things as the typical GT alumnus.

The grass is always greener.

Seriously, how much do you get paid to post this spin? Must be a pretty sweet gig.

I believe Chan is a good coach but I think he would be a horrible fit for Bama and I hope both he and Bama know it too. Think about all the people calling for Chan's head over the years..and then think about how quick people at schools like Alabama are at wanting their coach's head. I believe he could have success OVER TIME at Bama but you don't go through five coaches in eight years or whatever it is by being patient.

If Chan went there and didn't show immediate results, people would be fuming. If he left a struggling QB in during a big game, there would be mass hysteria in the state of Alabama.

Sporting News is reporting Gailey as a leading candidate for the 'Bama job, along with Frank Beamer of V Tech and Houston Nutt of Arkansas.

I can't imagine any of those three wanting anything to do with the Bama job. They're all smart dudes with good jobs who know how corrupt and thankless the Bama position would be. Especially Chan.

Facts are stubborn things Knox.

Sometimes I feel sorry for you Knox...living a glass half empty life.
Look at your own sig...the quote says win ACC Championship and beat UGA....and you highlight the beat UGA part instead. UGA fans LOVE GT fans that lay down and let them own your happiness.

I REFUSE to let a bunch of redneck mutts bring me down...at least publicly!!

If we win the ACC and go to the Orange Bowl with a 10+ win season I will be happy with the progress.....plus the best recruiting year ever. That is progress. However....we are certainly not done yet! There will be more to do over the next year.

btw...still love the fact I got you to change your sig. ;)
