If you had to choose one, Martinez or Wommack which would it be and why?

tough call really, Martinez has 2 legit NFL DTs, NFL S, and NFL lbs and still sucks

Wommack has NFL DE, NFL S, maybe 1 NFL LB

Both stink at in game adjustments and both's schemes are getting blown out of the water.

UGA has given up to career days to Mallet, Crompton, and Garcia just this year

Tech seems to give up more yards of offense to the last teams we have faced than any other team this year.

Wow. I just don't know who I would take

I will say Martinez, because as bad as he is, he doesn't use that damn wolf BS scheme.

I think Wommack is better. The comparable talent between the two deeps is, well, incomparable.

At least Wommack's worst games have come against good QB's. Martinez just made Jonathan Crompton look like Johnny Unitas. Advantage Wommack.

agreed there. Still think with UGA's talent, wommack would be as bad or worse than willie...its just his scheme IMO. Who knows. Just a good discussion.

MSU's QB is no better than crompton, mallet or Garcia
Clemsons QB is a RS or true freshman and no better than those 3
Harris is arguable, so is Ponder. I would put Ponder equal to mallet and garcia and if you looked at Garcia's numbers and who he has faced he is pretty darn good.

I don't think your QB argument supports it, just my opinion.

I would take Mallet over anyone we have faced, and maybe Garcia too.

I think if Coach Johnson decides to replace Wommack, he needs to find someone who has some fire in the belly. It seems like our defense plays like a bunch of choir boys. Not much passion. The offense plays to kick your ass where the defense plays hoping not to get their ass kicked. I'm not sure why Coach Johnson can not extend his personal passion for excellence to our defensive unit, but he needs to work on that. We might want to start looking around at some smaller division schools that have great defenses and give one of those guys a shot. Wommack has not been able to get this group to play up to their potential. If he does not get that fixed during the balance of the season, he needs to go.

Go Jackets!

I agree that if the defense does not show change from its current state, Wommack would have to have an extremely persuasive meeting with CPJ at the end of the year to keep his job.

I also agree the bold is a good place to start. It won't be easy to pull in a high profile defensive coordinator with our school and our funds, but I think someone from a lower level can at least not be worse the Wommack.

No offense to anyone, but **** this thread. Wommack is our guy for 6-8 more games. I'm not comparing our guy to some hack at UGA just yet. Wommack gets his chance to turn the defense around. He has my support at least until the end of the year.

God damnit e'ryone needs to just shut the phuck up about coaching changes. Ain't gonna happen til after the season and will cause a schism with the team.

Wommack was brought in to warm the seat for Giff. He has to be promoted soon or we will lose him.

I think our defensive players have fire, and you can see PJ's passion for excellence on defense as well (he was in a defender's face during the game and was "lifting" him up by his shoulder pads). I don't question our fire or our athleti****, but we just aren't where we need to be. That is coaching. PJ knows it and is working on it. We're stuck with Wommack until year's end, and I'm hoping he gets things turned in the right direction.

meh, I'd still take Wommack. Call me an idiot (not literally...) but I feel like the man MAY have some potential. Obviously CPJ sees something in him we don't... either that or he's trying not to fire him too quickly.

I'm curious how effective D-Morgue would be if we had UGAs starting DTs.

With NFL caliber talent, Wommack put together a pretty decent defense last season. With NFL caliber talent, Willy Martinez is making the SEC East look like an offensive powerhouse.

Our secondary is bad. I don't know if this is because of Wommack's schemes or his coaching of the players and their grasp of the schemes. Either way, things need to get better. I'll take a four point win, no matter what the final score is, but there's going to be games when we need to get at least one defensive stop in a half.
