Read Winklejon's latest blog about Sunday's practice and saw a reply by none other than Stateline Jacket about a walk-on WR named Clyburn who is apparently impressing the coaches.

I was getting worried because SLJ disappeared off the board last year at the end of the season and never responded to PMs. Some of us thought the worst. Glad to know he is alright and hope to see some posts from him soon since football season is about here.

Good

Best of both worlds.

1. Glad he's apparently okay.

2. Glad he's not posting.

3. Glad he's not going onto other teams' forums telling our recruits not to come here.

PS I dunno what he said about Clyburn. I think the kid has a chance, better chance than most walkons have. I think if he stays healthy and works hard, he will catch some touchdowns for us.

I always wondered whatever happened to him. I got banned from Buzzoff after sticking up for him against that drama queen beebad.

I know SLJ burned some bridges. He really pissed me off with that Big Joe Turner post on the Miami board a few years ago. But since he got booted from Buzzoff and came back here, he seemed to really turn over a new leaf. I've always thought he knew football better than the next fan, he just had a crappy way of expressing that sometimes.

That said, he said in the blog that Clyburn had the ability to be one of our best receivers walk-on or not.

I lost all respect for his "football knowledge" when he insisted up and down on this board that Keith Brooking was not a sleeper recruit, but was actually highly regarded.

I wasn't in awe of his football knowledge when he said Gailey ruined Bilbo's chances of being an NFL QB, but I enjoyed talking with him. He rightfully gave Gailey credit for a great recruiting year last year which I never thought would happen.

Wonder why he quit posting?

I am glad to hear that RB Clyburn is showing some promise. I for one was extremely pleased he decided to walk on at tech. If I remember correctly he was around 6-5 or 6-6 with good speed but had only played for 1 or 2 seasons in highschool because he concentrated alot on golf. If you are interested he has several clips on youtube that are amazing. It won't take you long to see some physical comparison to a certain former Tech receiver.

Clyburn will most likely have a scholarship soon and so will Booker, hes a Brian Finneran type with good body control and good enough speed. He wont contribute this year but look for him to start making some noise next season, we have a big group of wideouts height wise...very nice problem to have! He has a lot of potential and very good hands, will need to bulk up a bit.

Don't know why I'm jumping in on this; but I fail to see how being wrong about how strongly someone was recruited from high school equates to lack of "football knowledge". Lack of 'football trivia knowledge' maybe..

Yeah, umm, Bilbo used to accidentally transpose the numbers in the playcall when running no-huddle in practice. Not exactly a trait of an NFL caliber QB.

Well I didn't know whether Brooking was highly touted or not, but the difference is I didn't say anything about it.

Insisting on something so obviously wrong when everyone is telling you otherwise is not very knowledgable.

His Bilbo stuff was just flat wrong, and equally sprang from a lack of direct knowledge. He just got something into his head and stuck with it. You could tell him that Bilbo was bounce-passing consistently in practice, and would sometimes forget the play walking from the huddle to the line, and it made no dent. Yet he insisted.

Put it all together, you wound up with someone with strong opinions and no knowledge, and that is a very dangerous combination - and not one I respect.

Most ironic post, ever.

Techbert, I am very familiar with SLJ's defense of Bilbo and I can tell you that you missed his point. He insisted that had Bilbo been given as many chances as Reggie, than he would have probably in the very least done as well if not better than Reggie. SLJ wasn't serious about Gailey ruining Bilbo's QB career. You took him literally. What he was serious about is that looking back on the Bilbo situation, it made no sense if we were upgrading to Reggie Ball. When Reggie was tanking at the end of last season, he was pretty much adamant that everyone see the point he was making so he could say "Look, I told you so."

I happen to agree with him. I would have prefered if Gailey stuck with Bilbo over Ball but what do I know. Hindsight is 20/20.

I don't think I misunderstood his position on Bilbo. And the issue of the number of chances Bilbo had is one of the items he pontificated upon without direct knowledge. He was wrong, and thus the conclusions he reached had zero chance of being correct.

Too bad we couldn't replace Robertson, Oliver, and Johnson, who were not "getting it done" for us last year.

Zing!

beej67,
remembers that thread

How was he wrong? His opinion is that Bilbo would have done better than Ball given the same chances Reggie had. That is something that unfortunately, we'll never know to be true or not. His statement was a moot point. Your statement above however, is wrong.

That said, its pretty easy to make an arguement that Ball was so bad that certainly Bilbo coud have done better. I tend to agree with that.

BOR, Bilbo was never going to get the chance people thought he should because he failed miserably from the beginning, great athlete doesn't always equate to great QB. When you can't remember plays and reads you aren't going very far. He just never bridged the gap from HS to Coll.

What I did admire about the young man is he moved to WR without confrontation.

Too bad I never said Michael Johnson "wasn't getting it done." Don't let that stand in the way of another one of your arrogant, ignorant tirades though.

If your internet persona isn't fake you have to be a tremendous tool. If it is than kudos on the effort.

Wow, reading this thread I have to ask, when did everyone turn into bitchy menopausal women. Lets move on, please.
