Rushing Offense: 393.7 rypg (1st) and 5.85 ypc
Total Defense: 264.3 typg (14th) and 4.78 ypp (32nd)
TOP: 36+ mpg (4th)
Sacks: 2.67 spg (T-38th)
3D%: 54.5% (5th)
3D% Defense: 26.5 (13th)

If you had showed me these stats through Week 4 I'd take them in a second. That 3D% defense is a sight for sore eyes. Didn't look up kicking or kick coverage on purpose.

Also TaQuon is 10th in the country in rypg (128.7) and 1st in rushing TD per game (2.67)

Also we're the only team with 2 guys in the top 40 for rushing yards.. i think

Even one of my co workers is excited about Marshall and Benson - and he is a UT fan. He may be going through the change.

I'm curious where we rank on scoring efficiency (i.e., points per possession). That's the offensive stat that matters (though somewhat messed up by our kicking game). Rushing yards is misleading--we have more rushing yards simply because we run more than 90% of other teams.

I think my biggest thing is turnovers. We're averaging a -3 turnover margin against P5 teams, but lost in overtime to UT and beat Pitt handily. If it's true that past turnover margins don't predict future turnover margins, then we should expect to compete very well against the four top-15 teams on our upcoming schedule. The power and talent are there, and TQM has the moxy to run this offense well, if we could just focus on not puttin' the rock on the ground. Plus, there have been a lot of almost-picks by our secondary so far. Those aren't going to get dropped forever.

I don't have stats to back this up, but I remember in '14 thinking how we hadn't gotten hardly any takeaways the first half of the season. Then it felt like the floodgates opened for the second half of the season. Hoping to see that trend again.

I have minor concern about the QB and BB holding up if a) teams continue to force things to the inside on defense and b) we continue to have the kind of success we've had thus far. In both the UT and Pitt games, Marshall and/or Benson got dinged or worn out, and it was a mixed bag with the backups. I don't think it's sustainable to continue riding those two all year (especially against better competition) like we have been to this point. CPJ has mentioned needing to ease up on Benson's number of carries a couple of times. It's a good problem to have that we're so productive at those positions that we're literally wearing ourselves out, I guess.

I also hope Shamire Devine can stay strong all year - he was looking a lot more worn down in the Pitt game than he did in the UT game, and I noticed Benson and Marshall in particular helping him up a few times (funny because he's so much huger than they are). I guess heat was probably a factor, too. After Miami, we should be getting into the more temperate part of our schedule.

According to my analysis we're currently at 3.14 Points Per Drive on Offense, good for 16th in the P5 and 2nd in the ACC (behind Miami). Numbers are still pretty noisy this early in the season, but the best offenses in the country typically end up around the 3.5ish range. That's about where we were in 2014. Defensively, we're giving up 1.8 PPD, which is 39th in the P5 and 8th in the ACC. That's respectable compared to some of our prior years.

Keep in mind these are unadjusted numbers, so they don't take SoS into account.

Nice. So a field goal is a below average possession for us (in a sense)! I bet if we didn't have all the fumbles we'd be near #1.
