Here's a strength-of-schedule ranking from Phil Steele's website based on 2008 winning percentages of a given team's 2009 roster of opponents. There are some obvious flaws in this method of ranking SOS, but this is still interesting. Alabama 110 out of 120. Notre Dame somewhere in the 80s.

So what about UGA? We have heard so much about their gauntlet of death... So, according to this objective criteria, is their schedule the hardest of all? Top 5? Surely they're in the top 10...?! It would be absurd if they were not even in the Top 20?!?!?!?

Someone should go through that list and rank the conferences based on SOS.

The average opponent win% for ACC teams is 57.9 and the SEC's is 55.7.

The average of the SOS rankings (1-120) for ACC teams is 22.2. For SEC teams, 39.7.

According to this ranking, and excluding Jacksonville State, Georgia has the WEAKEST strength of schedule of any team Tech plays in 2009.

BC is the only ACC team with a weaker SOS than Georgia.

For BCS conferences:
Conf Avg Rank
1. ACC 22.2
2. Big12 37.7
3. SEC 39.7
4. BigEast 39.8
5. Big10 50.5
6. Pac10 71.4

Once again proves what I knew. ACC is the awesome. Big12/SEC/BigEast are ok, and the Big10 and Pac10 are horrible.

I didn't run the numbers for the other conferences but I wouldn't be surprised if the WAC beat out the Pac10.

Excellent. Thanks for that calculation dude!

But Georgia has the toughest schedule in the nation! Three OOC BCS schools!!!
