Obviously a financial decision. Grant Field's natural surface always appeared to be in immaculate condition
Best field in Southern cfb and we ööööed it up on purpose.

I wouldn't have cared if I was on grass.Woulda won 10 games this season on grass.
If it's all about money then get rid of the crappy light show used for scores. Who is responsible for that cluster?Hated it from the moment it was announced. It is a desecration of Grant FIELD. If it's about money all they have to do is have a fundraiser and we fans will cover it.

They admitted it was about money upfront. The intention was to have more concerts and events without ruining the playing field for football. Of course then COVID hits and we get the worst of both worlds…
Damn. Good point. Red clay.Maybe the question needs asked, do we even need grass on the field to play ball?
The lights needed replaced anyway and the LEDs use less energy. If it's all about money then get rid of the crappy light show used for scores. Who is responsible for that cluster?
We have event locations in Atlanta to handle that size event, unless the intention is to have BDS be the Dollar General version of a concert facility and we just do it cheaperThey admitted it was about money upfront. I am talking about the "celebration lights" installed for when we score. First time they were used it blacked out the stadium. The lights needed replaced anyway and the LEDs use less energy.
Luckily, we play mostly nooners while it is hot outside and night games in the freezing cold.I am talking about the "celebration lights" installed for when we score. First time they were used it blacked out the stadium.
Exactly. So why the expense of these lights that can only be used at night when there is so much hand wringing over finances?Luckily, we play mostly nooners while it is hot outside and night games in the freezing cold.
Didn’t we have The Rolling Stones or some other big name play at BDS a few years back?We have event locations in Atlanta to handle that size event, unless the intention is to have BDS be the Dollar General version of a concert facility and we just do it cheaper
I don’t know one of the coach’s new cliches is we got to get back on the grass.Damn. Good point. Red clay.

"You know who" mentioned this in his infamous signing day presser that he was looking forward to "getting back on the grassI don’t know one of the coach’s new cliches is we got to get back on the grass.
We seemed to fix the problem with the light show spazzing out after scores anyway -- just stop scoring. The lights needed replaced anyway and the LEDs use less energy.
We do but those don't make any $$ for GT. For instance say a concert seating arrangement will hold 75k people. At an average $75 per ticket that means the promoter is making $5.6M on ticket sales alone before everyone is paid. If we plan and host these events ourselves, we'd end up with the majority. Even if we're just a rented venue, after the rental fee and money made from concessions/beer, I would imagine each event would net us over $1M profit. We cant fund raise and make that so easily over a weekend. Say we have 4 events there over the summer, that's an extra $4M in the checkbook. We have event locations in Atlanta to handle that size event, unless the intention is to have BDS be the Dollar General version of a concert facility and we just do it cheaper
