Suddes

Maybe the question needs asked, do we even need grass on the field to play ball?

This thread has a ways to go before it catches up to the “Jesus is coming soon” folks.

The field issue is of those “new guy needs to show everyone how smart he is” type of changes. It was unnecessary, no one wanted it, and now nearly everyone hates it.

A smart man in charge would be on the phone with Shaw demanding that it be taken out and replaced with grass and/or fundraising to return the field to grass. But it appears we are out of smart people at GTAA.

Hated it from the moment it was announced. It is a desecration of Grant FIELD. If it's about money all they have to do is have a fundraiser and we fans will cover it.
If it's all about money then get rid of the crappy light show used for scores. Who is responsible for that cluster?

They admitted it was about money upfront. The intention was to have more concerts and events without ruining the playing field for football. Of course then COVID hits and we get the worst of both worlds…

The $$$ for the field is precisely 5% as important as the coaches' salaries. TStan found his man and is sticking by him. And will remain duct tape to him if and when he gets fired midseason.

Suddes has been a highlight and I hope in vain he stays.

The lights needed replaced anyway and the LEDs use less energy.

We have event locations in Atlanta to handle that size event, unless the intention is to have BDS be the Dollar General version of a concert facility and we just do it cheaper

I am talking about the "celebration lights" installed for when we score. First time they were used it blacked out the stadium.
Luckily, we play mostly nooners while it is hot outside and night games in the freezing cold.

Exactly. So why the expense of these lights that can only be used at night when there is so much hand wringing over finances?

We do but those don't make any $$ for GT. For instance say a concert seating arrangement will hold 75k people. At an average $75 per ticket that means the promoter is making $5.6M on ticket sales alone before everyone is paid. If we plan and host these events ourselves, we'd end up with the majority. Even if we're just a rented venue, after the rental fee and money made from concessions/beer, I would imagine each event would net us over $1M profit. We cant fund raise and make that so easily over a weekend. Say we have 4 events there over the summer, that's an extra $4M in the checkbook.
