i was thinking that it would be a pretty cool tradition to have a pre-second half cheer to get the crowd pumped up. it doesn't necessarily have to be then but i think it's a pretty good idea anyways.

it's based of the cheer of fireman ed and the n.y jets. he's hoisted onto one if his buddies back, put onto the big screen and the whole stadium chants "J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!"

wouldn't it be cool to have buzz on a cheerleaders back with a big firemans hat on(which may be a task but could be done underneath the stadium during the half break) and lead the whole stadium in a cheer?!

obviously its a copy and an ode to this guy and his cheer but i think with his approval it could be a new and fun tradition and get the crowd excited and into the game.

it would/could also solidify us as being known as the "TECH" other than VT or Texas Tech or any other of the techs.

here's a link if you don't know what i'm talking about.

give me a thought if you think its a good idea or just plain stupid.

Winning, on a consistent and unrelenting basis, will solidify us as being known as the "Tech", although, personally, I'm all for calling us the The "I".

Good idea.
thanks.

i got "spelling cheers are lame" on the other board.

i just want to know what people think. i just feel anything to get our crowd into the game will help. i feel we need something more to get our crowd enthused and excited and off their hands.

i'm not necessarily trying to copy other folks but just giving an example....auburn links a cheerleader to their p.a. which can get annoying at times with excessive lame cheers but can be strategically used to get the crowd riled when need be.

if we can bring more excitement into the crowd and make the game more fun, we'll have more people in attendance and grow more fans.

UCLA has one too. I think it goes like... U-C-L-A Goooo Bruins!

It's U C ELLLL A U C L A FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

I think it's a good idea, but it's not going to get our crowd any more pumped up. The only thing that can get us more pumped up is ourselves...we have two great fight songs and a good band. We need more people in the stands who are more engaged in the game. The first will hopefully be solved by winning. The second would probably be helped by reducing the jumbotron/promotion barrage(ie smarter than a fifth grader) that always occurs.

Also, the hive is lame.

H-I-V-E, Lame Lame Lame!

it was a sweet board until the split apart the "premium" section from the regulars

i had been on that board for many years before it got so polluted

Yeah, that's right. I knew I had something wrong with it.

God, I still remember when they played history of GT football when we had ND at home in 06. I was so pumped after that.

I'll be much less snarky over here, cause I like this place.

There are much better fan bases than the JETS to emulate; coincidentally non of those fanbases are for "professional" teams. College fans are infinitely better than pro fans most of whom care more about their bookie or their fantasy sports results, than the result on the field, IMHO.

It is a cool thing. I get to see it in Commonwealth Stadium when the Wildcat finishes his push-ups and spells C-A-T-S, Cats, Cats, Cats up here. It's part of the culture at UK. Everybody knows and Everybody Does the cheer, and have since 1930.

If you really want to do this, you need to go get the "Techity Rex Yell" from the 1920s T-books. Do that and you'll have done something.

No, having 60,000 students and multiple BCS championship game appearances like the "only" OSU in columbus.

Cheers and Traditions have to make sense for the culture of the institution. GT will never be the place where pickup truck rednecks identify.

Spelling makes no sense at a school known for math and science.
Hence we had the Differential X and Square Roots Cubed Roots Poisson Brackets cheers.

I'm more disturbed that any college sports fan would take a cue from a pro team, that seems heretical.

Good idea FSU has a cheer like that F-L-O-R-I-D-A-S-T-A-T-E Florida State Florida State Florida State WHOOOAAA!! I wonder if they got it from the Jets??

I hate that cheer, and it's one of the few things I'm not looking forward to about their visit to BDS.

If you've never been to the meadowlands to a Jets game. The cheer is pretty awesome at the beginning of the game and then by the end they were usually cheering for us. But it was cool.

:laugher:

On the original topic again, while I'm always annoyed by the loud chants and cheers of other schools, it also makes me a little jealous. We have To Hell With Georgia, but I'd like to have more.

I like

YELLLOW

JAACCKKEEETTSS

Once that one gets going, it can be deafening at field level.

When they had PJ Daniels starting the cheer on the Jumbotron, it seemed like it was stepped up a notch.

the worst about FSU is the incessant Da-Da-dadada with the dang chop. F'n annoying when its the only thing they do ALL GAME LONG!

My girlfriend plays cymbals in their band, and most of the band HATES that cheer. She says they play it - not joking - 5x per quarter.

For comparison, aside from white and gold, ramblin' wreck, and "F tuning" GT band plays our most used song - probably Mortal Kombat - about 5-7 times per GAME.

F Tuning is by far my favorite. Sends chills down my spine.
