Take What They Are Giving You

Commentators were especially critical of the offensive play calling and said essentially being a GT fan has got to be tough when u run a dive play in that scenario. We look like dawg öööö when our offense doesn't work. I'm talking embarrassing, just looks like the team doesn't belong on the same field.

Well, if we've learned one thing, it is that commentators know GT football

None of this has anything to do with play calling.

That is only true if no other play could have done better given the players on the field. You are correct that the dive up the middle on 3rd and 9 against a stacked box loses less than a sack. I hope that's not where we are, but I'm not sure.

For real. Commentators always hate our offense when it doesn't work. But, CPJ was a genius last year. If you can't hold the line of scrimmage, you can't run anything. We had these conversations before. Vad? Diamond? Pistol? Throw the ball more? Then, CPJ got back to the basics last year and we could've hung with anyone in the country. We just suck at blocking.

Anyone listen to Sean Bedford on the radio? I would respect his opinion on the matter.

On one play, the commentators noted that ALL 11 defenders were within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. That play was a 3rd down and, IIRC, there was about 7 or 8 yards to go for the first down. What play did we run? The dive. For about a yard.

Yes, people ARE taking away the option game by bringing the safeties up to the line, moving linebackers out into the flat to key on the pitch man and by just generally overloading the line of scrimmage. The way to attack this is vertically, just like the OP said. We have been unable to do this (or unwilling in many cases).

The easiest way to stop the triple option is to attack and penetrate especially by bringing the safeties up. It works for a while especially if there is no threat at wide receiver or A back. We will see a lot more of this in the coming weeks. Teams that tried this last year were repeatedly burned by seam routes from A backs as well as Waller and Smelter doing their thing against man coverage. It is what it is.

Yep. I liked the idea of Searcy beating safeties and LB's in man coverage, but that didn't work out. Our WRs just aren't on the same page as JT, and when they are the OL isn't giving him time to throw. If we can make that a legitimate threat, our option game will immediately look much better.

I had an emergency come up so only got to see snippets of the game on the TV at the hospital. This was the first drive of the 2nd half and Tech ran 2 dive plays and then on 3rd and 7 ran another dive play for a ööööing yard. I'm like WTF, come on are you kidding me? 3 and out on 3 dive plays for a total of 4 yards and you are already getting your ass kicked.

So after that play my observation was either the coaches don't give a f*** or the players don't give a f*** so I asked myself why should I give a f*** and never looked back.

Be grateful you only saw snippets, because it was ugly watching the same failures repeatedly. I'd equate our performance to the definition of insanity.
