gsupantther says GSU in 99 could possibly give us a run for our money.
i assume this would mean they possibly had better depth at the QB position and also depth that was more experienced at running the Offense than our last years team and possibly this years team.
i'd say this is one example of how GSU may have had more talent at at least one position. why couldn't it be more? as in WR......where we are somewhat untested?
GSU had a damn good program in the late 90's and i just think its a possibility.
i think the comparison of GSU's skill guys relative to last years team it was debatable.
but i'm positive with this years team with AA,
Roddy, JN, Diesel, Hill, D. Thomas. there's no doubt that this team is hands down the most talented he's ever dealt with.
The 1999 backup QB, J. R. Revere, led them to the 2000 championship.
Having been a fan of both Tech and Southern since around 1983 (when the Southern team started again), I shudder at the thought of our worst teams facing Southern's best, particularly our 1994 team after Bill Lewis lost them (and before Rice showed him the door). We has totally squandered any "talent" advantage that a 1-A team might have over a 1-AA team by then.
But to Lewis' credit, I believe he did open the season with a big win over Furman before tanking the rest of the season. That's better than Curry did against them (0-1-1 in the games I remember), and since he beat them handily, it's also better than Curry did against Western Carolina in 1985 with his best team. Also better than Ross did against Furman in 1991 when we had to recover a fumble in scoring position to beat them less than a year removed from our MNC. Or than Johnson did against GW last year with our latest super talented team.
