Tashard Choice Rumors?

I think in off-seasons with a lot of flux this type of thing doesn’t matter a lick in terms of “reputation”/character. I’m happy for Coach Choice. Texas is a much better place than LA an a state where he has some roots. Good for him.

This.

How is leaving after a month any worse than leaving after a year?

Well, when you leave after a week like this you're signing a contract and then leaving before performing any of the duties you agreed to do. If you leave after a year, you're signing a contract and completely fulfilling it as position coaches are always on year-to-year contracts. I do think there is a difference

That said, sometimes you have to do what's right for you, especially in a business like CFB. Choice isn't the first to do something like this, and he certainly won't be the last.

He also had an assistant's contract. I bet there were no consequences for either party. They could easily have fired him. He wouldn't have gotten a sweet HC, OC, DC contract. A RB coach should expect to have to move every few years as he works his way into a coordinator or head coach position.

Take a look at Tenuta's resume at some point. I think the longest he ever stayed anywhere was with us. Every other stop is from 1-3 seasons

Texas was Choice’s home for much of his adult life. I’m sure he also got a pay bump to move. There is no loyalty in this game… look around. Good for him.

This. It is 2021, the old days of job loyalty are just that, the old days. The job market is a lot more mercenary than it was 20-70 years ago, and that is especially true in today's P5 football world.

Plus it isn't even like he's putting USC in some serious bind. They have ample time to poach a quality RB coach from a smaller school, which they shouldn't have much problem doing. I'm sure Riley wasn't thrilled with the news, but he knows the business. I seriously doubt this will be looked at as any sort of black mark on Choice's resume going forward.

If I hired someone and made a public announcement, then before his first day that person reneged and went to work somewhere else and publicly announced it, I’d be pissed. It makes me look bad and I can no longer hire my second choice (because he’s know he’s second choice).

TLDR; The candidate wasted my time, reduced my options, and made me look bad.

That's your fault for making an announcement before having a binding agreement that didn't make you look bad

That analogy breaks down pretty quickly when you consider that there aren't likely to be reporters tweeting out your top targets before you've made a hire. Coaches are regularly hired with the public knowledge that others turned down the job first. If you're a RBs coach at UTEP or Kansas or somewhere like that, are you really going to turn down the USC job because you weren't the "first choice"?

This is a thread about a guy that couldn't get out of here fast enough.

I'm starting to wonder if Gibbs left because he knew TC was leaving or if Gibbs just left period and TC decided to bail if Gibbs wasn't here next year.

The more I think about it, the less interested I am in seeing TC back here.

Couldn't get out of here fast enough? He was here for three years, man. That is pretty damn long for a running backs coach.

He sat behind an idiot for 3 years, then GT apparently didn’t even offer him any type of progression. They kept the dipshit Key and Choice is expected to sit around forever watching his unit play well and the others suck? He voted with his feet and GT lost.
