Tech’s Dwyer is the nation’s second-best back

Look at the last three RBs to win the Heisman...

Reggie Bush won by averaging almost 9 yards per carry, scoring ~20 TDs, and leading the nation in all-purpose yards

Ricky Williams and Ron Dayne won by breaking career records for rushing yards and literally being the entire offense of their teams.

JD would need well over the yards he got last year to seriously be considered for the Heisman

Tech would have to go undefeated for Dwyer to have a chance at winning.

And no, draft order is not the "real heisman". Yes the Heisman is a lot of hype and sometimes misses the best player, but the college game does not always translate to the NFL. Tim Tebow will not be drafted in the top 10, but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve a heisman.

Do some of you think he won't be considered because we won't go undefeated? I still think we can go undefeated because every game is beatable. We probably won't, but we can.

Agreed. Even with 7-8 ypc, slightly over 100 ypg on the ground isn't going to cut it especially when he's not reeling in a bunch of receptions, returning kicks, etc. That's regardless of what the other candidates are doing. Realistically, I think he would need roughly 20 td, 7+ ypc (which could very well be the case) and at least 150 yards per game to be in the discussion at year's end. And, of course, the team has to be in the spotlight as well.

If we go undefeated and are positioned to play for a national championship, then you can be assured Dwyer will be in the top 3 of the ballots, but that's not going to happen.

Have some hope. You don't see every game on our schedule being beatable?

All beatable if our players play mistake-free football week in and week out. However, our players are both human and young which reduces the chances of them playing mistake-free football.

I see every game on our schedule being beatable...if you look at the games by themselves.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Yeah, we have enough talent to beat anybody on our schedule, but the stretch in October is just brutal. Plus you have to deal with injuries, momentum, talented opponents, fatigue, calls that just don't go your way, weird freak plays, making simple mistakes that end up being costly, etc, over the entirety of the season.

Just don't see us winning every game. Not saying we won't have the opportunity to win every game and make it exciting.

But what about the other teams? They get fatigued, injured, mistakes...

Right, even mighty UF lost to Ole Miss last year.

Yeah, but that was before Lord Tebow's covenant with his People that he would try as hard as he could to win football games. Up to that point, it was pretty much a dress rehearsal.

I gave up on the Heisman a long time ago.

Draft pick order is the "real" Heisman.

Please explain what that means? Draft Pick order deteremines the real Heisman?

I hope to God you don't mean that the # 1 pick should be your Heisman , so on and so on.

If so, that might be the most insane thing I've ever heard of.

In case you aren't aware, Teams don't just draft the best player in the Draft normally. They tend to go with what their needs are and pick the top in that position

I think our team will be more balanced on offense this year and Dwyer just won't get the yards to win a Heisman. Anthony Allen, Roddy Jones, Nesbitt, BeBe, Cox, Wright should all get mad yardage too. Isn't that the sign that our offense is working as it should?

Sorry, but I disagree. I think Dwyer could potentially have the same amount of yards or maybe more. I think we're going to do a lot more ydg wise and pts wise. With that, I look for the entire crew to have a better year.

Dwyer is still going to be the starting b back, so he'll still be getting a lot of yards, no?

A few more things must happen also. He has to have a big game against Miami. It is an early season, nationally televised game. If JD makes it a showcase game, he gets on people's watch list with the big named QBs.

Ooh, I hope he gives them a reason to show that RUN EM OVER highlight during this year's televised proceedings...

Well, I never said he couldn't have the same stats again, or better. I'm just saying that he won't have the legendary stats he'll need to beat the two former Heisman winners he'll be up against.

I agree with that then. I think he's got a great chance in 2010. He's got NO SHOT this year (although I'd love to see it and I think there's a possibibility of an invite) against Sam Bradford and Tebow.

If we can keep him til his Sr Year then he may be a front runner for it in 2010 for the coveted Top QB ( I mean Heisman) Award
