Tech approves alcohol sales at sporting events.

Its only a matter of time:

"A decade ago, the number of top-tier Division I schools selling booze to the masses at their football games was less than a dozen. Heading into the 2018 season, 52 out of 129 Football Bowl Subdivision programs have turned on the taps at either on- or off-campus venues"

"For Chrissakes, it's legal to buy pot in Colorado," said Chuck Neinas, the 84-year-old former NCAA administrator who once banned beer sales at the CWS in 1964."

Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue left on the table. I think WVU quotes 600-700k/yr

Uhhhhhhhmmmmmmm how much did we all have to donate for our 4 "recruiting analysts" this year? $350,000?? Behold:

Hocutt predicted revenues from alcohol sales could range from $800,000 to $1.4 million for the Texas Tech athletic department.

Georgia Tech is as lenient as you can be with open container on campus on game day. If someone wants to be inebriated in the stadium they already are. We're just pissing money away for some strange perception issue. Georgia State is already selling beer at Turner Field. The product they're selling is hot garbage but they're doing a better job of selling it than Tech and that's not the only way.
This. All. Day. Long.

Plus, some people prefer beer to a mixed drink, and would buy the hell out of beer in a stadium. It's not as easy to sneak 10 beers in as it is a flask. This would also get people in the stadium earlier. Many outside finishing that last drink, waiting as long as they can so they aren't sober by the 4th quarter.

If the concern is about overindulgence, then do what they do in Club Level and provide beer coupon tickets, but instead of two free cups of beer you'd of course have to make a purchase. Season ticket holders could receive 36 coupons per year, coded for each individual game, for a six game home schedule and 42 for a seven game home schedule.

Get me Stansbury on the phone ...and get me somebody while I wait.

That's not the concern. @GT flunkout nailed it. Perception is the concern. But ironically, dollars are always the number one concern for the program as a whole, and we are wasting an opportunity to generate mucho dollars.

They're lenient because they have to be, it's perfectly legal to have open containers on campus.

Lol. Sure it is. You don't honestly believe that. Oh wait, I think you do.

Just because they look the other way (as they should) doesn't mean it's legal.

Wouldn't your proposed paln also have to include the obligatory corresponding number of chili dogs w/onions, chili cheese fries, and barf bags to boot? Those hot September noonish game starts could get very, very messy.

I don't mind beer sales, but I think it should be confined to a bar area/viewing area. Perhaps make a chop house type area in the North Endzone above where the band sits below the letterman's club or something . Season ticket holders or those with passes only.

Why?

Are there issues or problems at other sporting events that allow beer sales throughout the stadium? Do you wish they would also adopt your model?

Yes. GT is not a pro sporting event. UTC sells at their stadium and has a viewing area in the endzone to watch the game and drink a beer.

But, whatever, I'm fine making it 4 hours without beer. If I want one, I'd be fine going to an endzone area to get it. I seriously doubt I'd buy more than one beer at inflated prices in the stadium anyway.

I go to a couple of Rice games a year and they sell beer and wine throughout the stadium. I'm more inclined to by one there since it will support the athletics program.

Glad it is not us. Saw more beer spills in the GT section at Louisville than I can remember.

I think it's funny how some posters want to say how Tech should sell beer and in what areas.

I say that if it brings in money to the program, then let's do it. It isn't out of line of what major league venues and some colleges do. It isn't like we are opening up Cheetah South and need a separate area for sales/dances/VIP. Like what has been mentioned before, GT already sells to the old coots in the Club Level.

Additionally, the majority of us who like whiskey will still be drinking at BDS. I really haven't seen that many issues with drunks in our stadium. Hell, I would have given out free beer at Duke, it surely couldn't have damaged that awful vibe.

We so need a Magic City club level.
