Rivals is reporting we just picked up Joh Drew, a DT from Northside Columbus GA

So that makes 3 defensive linemen already for the 2009 class, 2 of which are huge DTs. When have we ever been able to say that?

welcome aboard John Drew!

J.C. Lanier is listed as an OG. Are we moving him to DT?

Edit: Nevermind. I just read a little more about him. He is listed as a DT in all articles.

He played both in high school (I think), but he'll definitely be a DT in college.

Wow, we're off to a great start for 2009. 3 commits, 3 defensive linemen, and 2 of those are huge DTs. I like it.

And my concerns with CPJ was worries about the defensive side of the ball......the way we're already stackin' 'em up....lookin' good!!!

look at stats on Drew-29" vertical at 295lb, wow-he can move-it would be interesting if we have any DL that can do that now

Also this article is for a freshman and sophmore combine. This kid could still be growing over his junior and senior year.

OMFG!!!! This guy is a junior in high school!! He's F'in HUGE. Check out the guns! Kinda funny cuz i kept seeing the coach initially and thinking this guys not very big....scroll down...and all of a sudden i see him being dwarfed by a monster.
Holy crap! This guy is F'in HUGE:eek: Great pick up!!!!!!

There's definitely a chance he's still growing, because I've read articles that cite his height as 6'1, 6'2, and as of right now 6'3.

Barnes is 6-7 325 lbs
Lanier is 6-2 340 lbs
Drew is 6-3 300 lbs..

The future is SO Big in the middle, the competition better be running the toss sweep.

And to think all these guys are 17 and 18 years old. You've got to think one or two of them will grow another inch or two and all will add wieght in the form of muscle.

Damn!

The team quartermaster or whatever he's called better have a backup to Sysco or whatever commercial food provider they use - wouldn't want to be caught short.

I guess we might be able to switch to the 3-4 in the future after all.

idea with getting bigger DT's is now we won't have to rely on the DE's as much to pinch in and they can play wide and pass rush without worrying about losing as much gap control as they did in the past. The old DL scheme was really to force the RB's lateral and let the LB's clean up. It worked, but teams that ran straight at us and pounded us it didn't.

We hope the DT's occupy three OL every snap. Last year that wasn't the case, and last year our DE's were not allowed to line up any wider than a shade to the outside hip of the OTs.

Dont' see us moving to a 3-4....

This guy is already a beast. I hope he plays like he looks. Great job landing 3 commits this early. Kids need to know they best get on the Ramblin Wreck early or they will be left at the station.

Go Jackets!

Sophomore John Drew of Northside High School in Georgia was another defensive lineman who made a good impression. At 6-foot-1 ½ and 297-pounds, he has the potential to be a tremendous defensive tackle prospect because of his great power and athleticism. He had a 29.5-inch vertical, 5.21 40, 5.01 shuttle, 8’3” broad, and 24 reps at 185-pounds.
