Tech uniforms in the coming years

I do like the traditonal GT unis too. Piped in music is the very reason I don't go to the Falcon's games.

I can adjust to change as long as the W's occur. Correct me if I am wrong but did not the Jackets wear Blue jersey's under Bobby Ross. Remember 1990. I know there was a lot of carping about them in the West Stand boxes but GT did win and that is the bottom line, Buck or no Buck.

Yes, the Dodd teams did sometimes wear blue. The uni specs since '66 are documented at GT world NEWS (my booster site). I post the link now and then to answer specific questions which come up. Ramblin Buzz did most of the research.

Don't want to stand in the way of progress, but Nike has not demonstrated the ability to design a good uni yet, in my book. They're too caught up with the "new and different sells" concept, as is demonstrated with their shoes.

But, like people said, the kids buy new and different, so let's brace ourself for unis something like the Rams in future. Maybe they will be UCLA blue with Vegas Gold stingers starting under the armpits and going to the shoes.

Well, I might as well chime in:

No Piped Music...Just Say No

White and Gold unis.

I myself am 15. I am THE biggest Tech fan that I have ever met

I love the uniforms as they are. So here's my opinon on it all:

Uniforms : 1)First, we should keep them the same. I don't think that (Even if it does) uniform color should sway a recruit one way or the other.

2)We should play every home and away game in White jerseys and gold pants, EXCEPT for homecoming. We should then wear gold (We did this in 2000)

Piped in Music: This just isn't even fun to talk about. So the answer is NO.

I don't like the idea of signing with Nike, at all.

There's hope for our youth yet it appears. =]

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the reason we wore gold that day is because we were playing Wake, and Wake is one of the few teams that refuse to let us wear white at home.

Great post though, I definitely agree about the recruits not caring about uniforms. I say if Nike wants to have control then they can go elsewhere. Screw the sales increase! Screw the bottom line! "Just Win, Baby!!!"

One thing I will disagree on is the “recruits don’t care about the uniforms” comment. Research has been done by many different groups over the years of football and basketball players on why they chose school X. One of the most popular, and sometimes most popular, reasons is uniform style and popularity. Believe that or not, it has been shown to be true. Dave Braine and others have expressed this as well, so it is not out of left field.

If you think more than 5%-10% of Tech’s football recruits chose Tech because of the academic standards, you are mistaken. I’m not saying that they all chose to come here because of the uniforms either, just stating that it is a factor, and a bigger factor than most realize.

Trust me, I graduated from Tech in ’98, I had classes with the likes of Joe Hamilton, etc, and these guys did not choose Tech for the same reason I did. They are all great guys, but I doubt seriously if they had ever heard of the Ramblin’ Wreck (the car or fight song) prior to playing here. One former Tech DL once told me in class that he always dreamed of “wearing that FSU spear on his helmet”. Do you think he knew much of the FSU tradition? He knew they won a lot and his peers back home thought they had a “tight” uniform. FSU never offered, and he came to Tech.

Believe me, I love our uniform as is, complete with the gold numbers on the white jersey. I love our tradition. But the prevailing thought now among College ADs is that they need to keep up with the times and have an atmosphere that is appealing to 18 year old kids.

Let me just restate what I said earlier for clarification. I repeat...I DO NOT LIKE PIPED IN MUSIC FOR GEORGIA TECH! I can understand it for other schools but not GT. Whether you like it or not, the fact remains THE KIDS WE ARE TRYING TO RECRUIT...watch them during games and see what THEY think. That doesn't mean I want it, I condone it, or it is worth selling our souls for it.

Same goes for uni's.

I don't want to go down as the guy on the board who is the "piped in music fan". Instead I will bee glad to go down as the guy on the board with the incredibly well endowed alcoholic guy.

I prefer the gold pants and white jerseys, but the uniforms are a very low priority for me. Win big and it will make little difference to the athletes. Everybody loves a winner, even high school athletes.

Win big and Tech will be like a huge magnet.

My turn.

I don't have a problem with some modernization of the striping on the pants and jerseys, but the rest is off limits. White jerseys and gold pants with Gold helmets and the GT. Screw Nike, hell they won't even be Nike 2 years from now. If we let them have control of uni design then we need to kick some AA arse.

Piped in music. HELL NO!!! Give me a break. Only pasty white yankees who wear black socks with their sneakers like pro football beyond a passing interest. Yes, I'll watch the Falcons on TV, but go there and pay 30 bucks for that??? HELL NO!!! We have an outstanding band and always have. And its an all volunteer group, no music majors here!!! How dare we insult them with piped in music.

If a recruit won't come to Ga Tech because he doesn't like the uni,

him. Folks, we are different, we cannot forget that. God forbid we turn into Miami or FSU or UGAg. There are plenty of kids who will go to the school that offers good academics with D1 football exposure. I'll take George Godsey over Chris Wenke every time.

Them Ray Lewis types can go on down to FSU with the rest of the Criminoles. I take as much pride in never having been on probation and only signing qualifiers as much as I do a MNC.

UGAg is a party school to students and a surrogate pro team to all the trailer park fans that pack Sanford Cesspool. Ga Tech is a way of life. GA TECH IS A WAY OF LIFE.

Any questions?

We could wear the Miami style uniform with Gold piping and it would work quite well.
As much as people hate oregon/oregon states uniforms..the away jerseys are tolerable.
Basketball is the biggest area for uniform variety with Logos and color schemes.
I would welcome football uniforms from Nike:
1. The Merchandise that comes with it.
2. Nike will make traditional style jerseys if demanded.
3. Gold(Old Gold/Goldenrod/Bright Yellow) can look very good, just not metallic. So our Uni's will never match our helmet.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Regarding # 2: If we sign a deal with Nike, they will dictate to GT what the new uniform will look like (not the other way around). They pay mega bucks and they will to call most of the shots just like they did with Oregon, Miami, and those bib-uni's for BYU.

I don't think GT will be in a good position to negotiate if we sign a contract with them. It's a trade off we need to consider.

I agree with JT's analysis that kids these days care about what their uniforms look like. Something to consider as we ponder potential changes to the uniforms.

Good day gentlemen! I would like to weigh in on the subject of uniform colors. The last time we played ND in the Gator Bowl we wore gorgeous gold jerseys that made the leprechauns green in more ways than one!! Some piping or accent in navy is acceptable but I think the best course of action is to get the best looking old gold and white we can and make it appeal to our jocks-to-be! Next item, the music at home games;let's keep the band as big, beautiful, and loud as we can but maybe pipe in some music to fill in dead spots or else get an announcer who doesn't put you to sleep. Even with the renovations GF@BDS is still not going to seat the huge numbers that some off-campus stadiums do;however, it is the oldest on-campus stadium still in use and we need to capitalize on that point to make it the best one also.

On another note, since UGA6 went to DC is there any chance of getting the Wreck in the next inaugural parade!

Have any of you been to the GT board hosted by accessatlanta.com? There is a UGA fan who posts prolifically and vituperatively on it who I would like to turn into Varsity chili dogs and expel the waste gas into the air for purposes of combustion!!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">It wasn't a Wake thing, more of their ex coach Jim Caldwell. He liked things very structured & organized and wanted to wear the same exact uniform at home and the same exact uniform on the road. We asked to wear white at home two years ago, and he refused citing their desire to wear the same white road unis. We will have to wait and see what the new WF coach does on 10/5.

Lets remember that ugag has Nike uniforms and they haven't done anything drastic to them. They still have their "classic" look. I HATE SILVER BRITCHES!!

Hopefully, we can work with Nike and keep the classic white and gold look!

Traditions are great, but you've also got to be willing to change and try new things. Just look at what the changes have done for UVA, as mentioned. Does that mean we need to do the same things, no. But at the same time, we've got to do things to create more interest for fans and recruits.

Remember, the Reck didn't make its first appearance at Grant Field until like 1961. I'm sure a lot of folks then were saying "why are you bringing that silly car on the field? We've never done that before. It's not a tradition."

Point being, times change, and we've got to try new things. To get hung up on color specifics, no music, or whatever the "we've always done it that way" thing is, is not good. Times change, and we better change with them.

I'd love to hear Ozzie or something similar when our D takes the field. Maybe then people will stand and make noisse before 3rd down.

Hey FHStinger, I find it ironic you oppose uni changes when looking at your helmet attached to your messages.

I would have picked the gold helmet from "The Helmet Project" website for my signature, but the "GT" on it doesn't look official. See:
