Tech vs. Notre Dame at Dome?

I would love to see Tenuta's defense against the TO. There will be guys flying everywhere!

I bet Tenuta's D wouldn't be too bad against PJ's offense. We know Tenuta wouldn't lock himself into two or three defensive looks like other DCs are doing, he'd just roll dice and hope for the best like he always did.

Bebe and the A-backs would be wide open all day long against Tenuta's defense.

Sure, but you'd have 1/2 second to throw the ball. There would be huge runs and passes, but there would be a ton of sacks too. I can see the B-back stiff arming a LB, then running untouched for 80 yards.

This wouldn't be likely to happen before 2014 would it?

Well if my date guess is right, at that point our OL might be better enough at pass blocking to give us another 1/2 second.

Are you serious? CJT is Mr. Lock-Tight himself. He never changed his D even when down 30 points. Also, his blitzing style would eat him alive defending an option. We'd be tossing 70 yard TD's to wide open WR's all day.

I say "bring it on, ND."

He never changed his D even when down 30 points.

He never changed his philosophy (BLITZ) but he changed which blitzes he called. He'd always send someone, but you never knew who it was going to be.

When he guessed right, he got big plays on D. His last year here we led the nation in sack yardage.

I'm saying 1/2 because we line up under center with wide gaps between our OL. Tenuta's philosophy would be to send everyone through the gaps. If you get the ball out on a sweep or toss it up to the WR going down the field, you can get a huge play. Otherwise, sack.

I picture a game like us vs WVU in the Gator bowl. Huge plays by both sides (our O, thier D).

Thank you Mr. Barnhart for using your editorial discretion in omitting a certain fact in the paragraph about Holtz heading to Japan that we prefer not to be reminded of.

I take back all those things I said about you. Well, most of them. ;)

I have complete confidence in PJ's offense. But more importantly, I have complete confidence in PJ as a coach. If he saw a coordinator like JT, I imagine he could find a way to exploit it. JT uses a high risk/high reward defense that is exciting to watch. But, with a good coach, players like Sean Glennon can throw for 296 yards against you, and make you look pretty bad.

So my memory does work and is in fact not nagging me for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

If we played ND tomorrow:

-CJT (ND) would have a completely different philosophy.
-Blitzing safeties/linebackers that have QB or Pitch responsibility would be just plain stupid unless it was an obvious passing situation. We have too many different scenarios that can happen at the snap. Blitzing is based on expectations of the offense.

When blitzing against a prostyle offense:
-QB drops back to pass in the back field
-QB hands off to HB in the back field
-QB fakes handoff and passes

When blitzing against GT:
-QB hands off to B-back at the LOS
-QB fakes and keeps in A,B, or C gap
-QB tosses in the backfield to A-back
-QB pitches to the A-back on the edge
-QB fakes any of the above and passes
-QB drops back to pass

To blitz an option is foolishness. You might get by with it once, but the next time, it's 6 points, if CPJ's on the other side of the field.

The TO would destroy CJT zone-blitz scheme!!! All the Qb has to do is determine whether the blitz will be strong/weakside and attack the DE that is dropping in coverage. It will be fast break 2 on 1 everytime!!!

This is my point, the TO leaves a D one down on DB's, since the play side S has to play run support. If they're blitzing DB's, you just send 4 receivers downfield and you got a TD, if the QB can put it near the open receiver. Or you have a WR/A-back on a DE/LB.

If they blitz a LB and drop a DE, nothing has really changed. We just option the LB. If they blitz a LB and let the DE penetrate, they've just thrown out TWO guys on the play side, and we run the lead toss to Dwyer, who runs right around them with an OT, A-back and WR in front of him against only a S.

If they blitz the back side, no one will be there when they get through, unless they commit early and telegraph the idea.

Blitzes don't work on option teams, except for the very occasional one. The play happens too fast, and there are too many ways to beat it. Now getting penetration with the DL can wreak havoc big time.
