Losing an LT is never good when trying to break in a new QB. Losing an MLB vs. an offense like GT's is also tough. Tenn also had one of their best players Jaylen Hurd transfer last season.

New Player Comparison
GT is breaking in:
  • new QB - could be 1 of 4, 3 of which are relative unknowns
  • new BB - up to 3 may play
  • new kicker
  • new punter (granted, he was the best high school punter in the nation last year).
The rest of GT's 2-deep has a lot of experience. Defense is very deep.

Tennessee is breaking in:
  • new QB - Dormady is starting, he is a Jr pocket passer who has maybe 5 career rushing yard to his name. They've got another new QB who will mix in as well
  • new RB(s) - Tennessee lost Hurd and Kamara, two great RBs from last year's team. Jr John Kelly is a proven talented RB though and he will be starting.
  • WR(s) - Josh Malone was drafted last year as a junior to the Bengals. True freshman Josh Palmer is slated to start. Josh Smith also may be injured for this game, leaving a spot for a R-Fr receiver Latrell Williams or Sophomore Tyler Byrd. Jauan Jennings is a known commodity at WR as well.
  • New MLB - without Kirkland, Tenn has limited options at MLB.
To me, it sounds like Tenn has as many unknowns on offense as GT does. At the moment, GT appears to have a slight edge in the injury/suspension department.

Tenn fans seem to think that GT's defense is not very good. I think GT's defense will be their best defense in several years if practice reports about a returning pass rush are true. They are loaded with talent in the secondary. Tennessee is replacing a LOT of production from last year's team, and it surprises me how much they've actually lost once I did some digging. Malone, Hurd, Kamara, Dobbs - names that we've all likely heard before - are all gone.

Tenn has no idea what version of an already-complicated offense to prepare for. The offense will look vastly different for each different QB on the roster. If they prepare for Matthew Jordan and the midline and they get Taquon Marshall on the perimeter, they're in trouble. The opposite is also true - VT is the last team GT faced who has prepared for the wrong quarterback. Their defense usually stifles GT - last year they got walloped.

The crowd will likely be 55-45 in favor of GT. I'm not entirely convinced that GT's allotment was sold to ONLY GT fans, and any UGA fans who scooped up season tickets for the November game in Atlanta will likely be pulling for Tenn.

This game is going to come down to GT's OL - rumoredly among the better OL that CPJ has had - vs Tenn's HUGE DL. If the GT OL moves forward on the snap, the game is likely over for Tenn. I give the advantage to GT's defense compared to Tenn's offense. I think the DL and LB are going to pressure the relatively-immobile Tenn QB and handle any of the read-option plays Tenn likes to run effectively enough to allow the seniors in the secondary to make some plays.

Calling a close game until a back-breaking touchdown in the middle of the 4th to put GT up two scores.

LOL have you ever watched our defense before? We always make the 6 foot plus immobile QB's look like Michael Vick.
 
According to PJ, Tennessee's OL is a strength of their team, he thinks they'll try to run right at us since they're breaking in a new QB. And we all know DL is not a strength of ours lately. So OL is a good place for someone to be out. As was MLB.

Oh I know. I enjoy the back and forth with opposing teams rather than the circle jerk "we're going 15-0 crowd" or the "fire Butch"crew. He said " you heard it here first" and I just wanted to be a smart ass.

I had the three piece fish dinner from Captain D's a few nights ago. Fries and coleslaw. I keep forgetting how crappy Captain D's coleslaw is, but I ate it all anyway. Just letting you guys know what you are dealing with. Three pieces of fish. I lift bro, do you?
