Texas and Nike new deal for 15yr/$200M deal

2018 but teams are locking in deals well before the end of their respective deals
 
Hopefully we get a nice, juicy Russell Athletic renewal. The big cry will be extra salty.
 
We will be lucky to get 40% of a contract like that - Russell, Nike, UA or Adidas.

And Nike makes just as ugly öööö as any of them. They just are real good using spotlights in pics
 
If Russell gave us the traditional look with the correct shade of gold this board desires, would we still hate Russell because it's Russell? What if they gave us a ton of $ but still crappy uniforms would we like it because we had the $? Just curious if there is ever a scenario in which Russell is acceptable for this board or not.

I don't get the hate for our uniforms. They look pretty good nowadays. I don't see what Nike could do any better unless they are going to bedazzle them up.

I suspect that the hate would die down some with a more traditional uniform (I've noticed a lot less negativity over the last couple of years). That being said, there's always going to be a subset of brand whores who are afraid that the guys at their country club are going to make fun of their Russell polo.

I do know a fella that has, I suppose, two hats. A white UnderArmour hat and a black UnderArmor hat (no sports logo, just UA). Always wearing one or the other. Usually paired with some sort of UA pullover shirt. It is quite fashionable and would definitely get kudos from the club set.
 
It's not just the uniforms. Russell generally sucks at designing sideline wear and team associated clothing. That's why I bitch. Limited offerings and what they do make isn't that great in terms of cut or design. I did buy a great navy golf polo from the bookstore, but it's UA. The Russell stuff had a bunch of piping and other stupid stuff on them.
 
Russell has lost everybody in the P5 except GT. They cling to a few G5's like Ohio and Western Kentucky as well. Russell doesn't even do moisture wicking under garments, shoes, athletic socks, sweatbands, arm warmers, etc. That's why with a Russell contract you see Nike accessories all over the team.

Yea, it would have been nice if Russell treated GT as their incubator for new products, designs, etc much like Maryland and Oregon do with their respective providers. But I think that's a dream that will never be fulfilled. Adidas sorta uses Louisville for that purpose. I'm not sure if anybody uses Reebok in CFB, but Reebok does do pro unis for the CFL.

Basically, given the financial shape the GTAA is in, they'll take whoever waves around the biggest payday. I just don't know if Russell can cough up enough money to retain their last gasp in major CFB. We'll have to deal with whatever the consequences are.

Also -- Russell is impossible to find fan apparel wise. They have made some good polos. You can find them online a few months of the year or at the bookstore. The end. Which is realllllllllly sadddddddd.

This. It is the outside stuff Russell sucks at. You'll find George P. Burdell before you find some quality team issue apparel.
 
nike's best looking uniforms are traditional designs like texas and alabama. coincidence?

it ain't the designer, it's the design.
 
Guys.

Russell's CEO is a GT grad and thus is kin. It don't matter if their stuff sucks, you have to support your kinfolk.
 
Doesn't Berkshire Hathaway own Russell? Old rich man needs to come off some of that jack.
