1) There are more interesting football posts now!!!!!

2) I think Pitt is going to completely shut down Sims from running. This may suggest a spy linebacker or safety keeping an eye on Sims only. Any ideas here?

3) I am thinking wide swing outs or circle routes to RB's may work. Also outside WR are possibly going to get single coverage, so based on how they handle that, outs to the sideline or deep may be available?

4) I was happy for the TE two point conversion. TE's could also be a good opportunity if LBers get slowed down watching Sims first?

Comments?

I hope they dedicate an LB to Sims. That just leaves one more hole/receiver/blocker open.

2. I don't know that many teams will be able to completely shut down Sims in the run game. He's fast and slippery enough that, unless the defense is truly elite, he's going to break some for big gains. However, I have to imagine they'll respect his running after seeing nearly 13 ypc(!) against UNC.

I don't know if this means they'll have a LB spy him all game or if it just means they'll slow down their rush to try to contain him. Either way it should open running lanes and/or give him time in the pocket to find open receivers.

I imagine Pitt will take that risk though as it forces Sims to distribute the ball instead of just taking off and beating him with his feet. The good news is that Sims looked pretty darn good distributing the ball on Saturday when he had to and we have more than a few weapons that can make them pay in the open field. McGowan, in particular, has been great at getting yards after the catch, and we all know how dangerous Do. Smith and Gibbs can be. Mason has shown some hands this year at times, too. His one-handed grab against KSU was beautiful.

Hahaha. You mean TRY to shut down, right? Of course the DC will try to spy Sims. Otherwise, they'll be completely gashed.

Tennessee's two QBs ran for over 100 yards against Pitt and threw for 240 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT with completion percentage of 67%.

Those same QBs ran for a total of 30 yards against Florida.

I like our chances.

OL needs to stop the comedy of errors. Do that, and Sims will have a field day.

How did it work when Teams much stronger than Pitt tried to shut down Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson from running in the recent past in CFB ?

Sims might be a half-step slower than those guys, but a Team the Caliber of Pitt won't be stopping Sims' run Game unless our OL has a bad game

Sims is only gonna get better

Sims has an elite work ethic

Too many Fans are over reacting to 1 bad Qtr in the season opener where the Kid missed a few deep throws, he was likely a little amped up, easily understandable, except to the anti-Sims crowd

Why our Fanbase has an anti-Sims segment to begin with probably deserves an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary

Narduzzi at Mich State loved to bring pressure from different slots along the front7 to try and confuse the QB , but it doesn't work as well with lesser players

Pitt is gonna get their azzes smoked, CGC gets his "handshake revenge" afterwards

Sims has had issues throughout his career with ball security. He has fumbled when hit, mishandled RPO's that led to fumbles, thrown into coverage trying to make the big play, missed open receivers, etc. The ball security issues are the most crucial - turnovers cost you wins. I posted in some thread here a couple of weeks ago that the next time he got into action would be critical for his career. If he came in and took care of the football he would be fine - he certainly has a big arm and great speed and cutting ability. However, I felt that if his next outing he turned the ball over it might be his last time to see the field.

Well, he got his chance Saturday night and boy did he make the most of it. Great plays and ZERO turnovers. My hope is that this has been a part of a maturation process and that he is ready now to be prepared, stay sharp and focused, make good decisions, and hang on to that football. Ball security was my only real critique of him, but it was a huge problem. He will make mistakes. But, if he minimizes those errors, with his talent, he can be a great quarterback for us.
