That new kicker...

Shawn IS someone's son and he has taken the loss personally even though there were other factors that contributed to the loss( fumble that lead to UT TD). He's a good kid, from a good family who has worked hard to be where he is and will do what it take to rise above his last performance.
Well said, Mr. Shawn Davis Sr.

I'm reminded of the time I met Scott Blair's parents in Starkville in '09. They were wearing Scott Blair jerseys so I asked them if they were his parents, to which they replied stte "depends..."

Yep. Stand by my statement. He messed up, glad he's got people around him that don't just buy him an ice cream cake and tell him it's ok. College is the time to learn it's not all butterflies and fairy tales and people that put a lot of stock into the situation aren't going to give you a free pass....they hold you accountable. JJ Green has done a lot of positive things in his college football career to counter balance his screw ups. Taquon rushed for 250 yards for 5 tds. This kid can make up for it but he hasn't yet. He should be kicking in his sleep.

Despite what some idiot said above, I played football and kickers and (non TO)quarterbacks don't do anything in practice. It's the 2 physically easiest jobs on the team. No excuse for what happened Monday. You had 1 job...2 if you count kickoffs and both were the worst they could be. Kicking it out of bounds every time would have given them worse field position and he hit 0% of his field goals.

It can only get better...literally

The fact that this is a walk-on, back-up kicker makes this all the more unfortunate. Whether we say it or not, he knows he wins the game if he hits the 36 yard field goal. Green knows we win the game in all likelihood without the fumble. I hate it for these kids, but this is part of playing on a big stage. I hope they get the opportunity again and come through. I am sure they feel awful and I hope they are looking forward to the next opportunity as opposed to dreading it.

You just can't practice the psychological pressure.

I would look at it this way: Some people blow the big kick at the end of their career and that's it, their legacy is failure. He has plenty of games ahead of him to make amends, games that may matter for championships. If Butker had missed every other FG in his career, he'd still be a hero for The Kick.

Not very much as low and short as they are

We could go for two every touchdown, go for it on 4th and manageable inside the 40, and kick on-side kicks after on every kickoff.

Maybe it wouldn't be much pressure on us, and a ton on our opponents. Try it out on Jacksonville State.

Sure it will snake bite us, but not having a good kicking game already has.
