With the media portraying the athletic program as being in disarray, Gailey has to keep the ship afloat. If the football program digresses than all you know what will break loose. Of course, if we do digress in the W-L columns, than maybe we have to take a long hard look at our coaching staff. I believe we have the talent to have a good season unless the injury bug is very unkind to us. I still don't know if Reggie's lack of development is of his own doing or the coaching staff, and I will always believe this staff gave up on Bilbo to soon. I know O'Leary and Fridge were going to turn reins over to him after Godsey. I'm no college coach but I believe with a talent like Bilbo, you kindof tweak the offense to fit the talent. Well enough ramblin, this season will be HUGE for the whole athletic program because WE ARE A FOOTBALL SCHOOL!!!

You have to like the potential of our DL. it has been a long time since GT has had a dominate DL but this upcoming season may be one. Combine that with our athletic LBs and Tenuta should be excited. My big concern is LB depth, and DBs.

Spring should be interesting.

I guess I missed the part about the whole athletic program being in disarray. Can you post a link?

Uh....you mean like they did with Reggie (total failure, IMO)? I totally agree with you on your Bilbo thoughts. However I think the need to take a good long look at the coaching staff is already upon us. No need to wait for another season to pass, unless you are law_dawg or someone like that.

Next year is key for the coaching staff any way you look at it. We'll have a new AD who will undoubtedly use next season to determine whether he wants to make a move to put his stamp on the program. It's obvious to me that's why Chan go the extension. Braine knew he was leaving, he didn't want to make a change and even if he did knew it wasn't fair to the school for him to make a decision on his way out, and he gives the new guy the ability to sit back and take his time making a decision.

Hivered has that right, those OOC dates are set.

The ACC doesn't release conference dates for maybe another month or two.

why do we play at VT two years in a row?? Is this just part of the growing pains when the ACC expanded or did our wonderful AD not step up to the plate for us? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

No offense, SouthGa, but when I read this, I feel like I'm in a time warp. This post should have been written two years ago. We already have digressed, and the need to 'take a hard look at our coaching staff' has been with us for two seasons.

I have to agree with you here. I am at a total loss as to why they went with Ball instead of Bilbo. I am not going to bash Reggie Ball as I think he pretty much gave his best. I am going to have to say the coaches take the blame. I will aways think what if Bilbo had a chance.

I have to agree with a post I read the last week or so that Reggie could better use his talents as a Defensive Back where he might have a chance at the next level if he has one at all.

Hope Taylor Bennet and the other Q.B.'s have a good spring.

C4, it's because of the growing pains of the ACC. In 2004 both Miami and VT played us in Atlanta. The reason that I have read, of playing @ Scott Stadium 2yrs in a row is so that we will not have to travel to the state of Virginia twice in a season, and not have to play both Miami and VT as away games in the same season.

Thanks for the info, but Scott Stadium is UVA, Lane Stadium is VT, but I know what you mean. Just seems very difficult to play at VT two years in a row! Why can't we get a team to play us in Atlanta two years in a row except UConn.

ncjacket, Furman Bisher in the AJC on Sunday...

expressed that exact sentiment. He said "don’t know that in all my time I have ever seen the Georgia Tech athletics family in such a disheveled state."

Whether you agree or not, Furman Bisher has observed GT for many, many years, mostly as a sympathetic observer, and his opinion still carries some clout. Since I started at GT in 1957, I certainly have never seen nor heard as much dissension, but, of course, internet boards weren't around during Pepper's tumultuous final years when he was fired and sued the GTAA for breach of contract, lots of dissatisfaction among the fan base in those days also...

The fact that we are sitting around saying"next year",again, tells me that we have settled once again for sloppy seconds. If a change is not made next year,it will have devastating effects. After all,why haven't the last four years meant anything?

Agreed. See my post above...we are on the same wavelength, and I am still amazed that so many still are not!

You have me confused. You are asking for coaching changes now? Sloppy seconds of what? Are you saying that the longer we wait to make coaching changes this year the more difficult it will be to find replacements? Which position coaches are you talking about and why?

I'm starting to come around on your wavelength. I've written it off as "rebuilding" for the previous couple years but that bowl game really smacked me in the face. Although, it was more our defense that really got smoked. Could we not bump LaTendresse off his route/timing at all?
But, in the end it is the responsibility of the HC to get everything in check which at this point I'm shaking my head. My problem is the losses in games that we SHOULD win. I just don't have an answer for who would or could do a better job here at GaTech. And at this point it won't matter for the next 3-5 years anyways so I will continue to support CCG but not with as much furvor as I have in the past.

Call me gullible, but I am still hoping maybe after National Signing Day or at least by spring practice there will be some announcement on some change or changes. Hopefully offensive play calling! If not I think I will /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puke.gif

There will be some changes. Whether that includes who will call plays I haven't heard, although I doubt it.
