I know Roof personally, and know how he hated to leave Tech for Duke under the circumstances he found himself in after everything fell apart at Notre Dame. The ND job was going to be a pay doubler (hard to turn that down). Ted was OK with the job demotion at Tech(a move he feels was spearheaded by Kim King and his posse, not by Gailey), but he was not able to accept the major pay cut that was going to come with it.
His brother had just died a few months earlier, couple that with both his and his wife's families being in the Atlanta area, it was very tough to move to North Carolina.
He has a 3 year contract, independent of the Head coach, so no matter what happens at the end of the saeson, Ted is covered thru 2005.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Ted as the next Duke head coach, or even return to Tech someday, as an assistant or even the Head coach(I'm talking YEARS from now).
Ted's a great guy, a great recruiter, and he's learning how to be a better coach. He loves the Yellow Jackets, and understands the politics that caused him to change his address. I hope he has great success where ever he goes.
By the way, while Ted respected O'Leary and credits him with giving him his opportunuties as a coach, he regularly referred to him as that A-hole O'Leary.
