The Beer is Here!

Good call on the St. Bernardus. Wish I'd had the Sexual Chocolate - just way too limited. You don't have an extra sitting around you'd want to trade/sell, do you? ;)

Distribution from midwest and pacific to GA and South is getting better all the time though. Stone is now in GA. SC has Bear Republic, Founders, etc. NC has Bell's, Ballast Point, etc. Now, if we could just get some Alesmith, Russian River, 3 Floyds, Surly, etc.

I do actually have one sitting around but I am no sure what I want to do with it yet.

Stone Brewery is finally here and I am sipping on a smoked porter right now. Also, sweetwater festive is out too! You guys need to pick those up. Only 11000 bottles released and I have 3 of them :D.

I was hoping that someone would talk about real beer on this thread. :biggthumpup:If you like the Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, you must try Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout.

And to you people who love Blue Moon and Leinenkugels, I'm glad you have found something you prefer to the same old macro crap. Now, take the next step: go to a liquor store and pick up any of this: St Bernardus Abt 12, Duvel, Chimay Blue. Then you will know what it really means to drink a Belgian. (Note the ABV though or you'll be in trouble quick!)

Agreed. A lot of people think they can go to brick store or taco mac, have a foreign named beer and call themselves a beer snob.... NOT SO.

Good suggestion. You have to get some Stone RIS when it comes out in the Spring too. My favorite RIS, but I've still got Dark Lord, Abyss, Speedway, etc. in the basement that I've yet to try.

Right, and the idea that foreign is better raises a different point: there are so many great domestic breweries to choose from that I could do without imports (well except for maybe Belgians). North Coast, The Great Divide, Anchor.... anything I have ever had from any of those U. S. breweries has been awesome, and they are becoming more and more available all the time. Even here in GA we have decent breweries (Terrapin, Sweetwater). It ain't about domestic vs import; it's about megacorporate macro vs crafted micro. The only problem is that once you get going on those real ales, you can never much enjoy the macro lagers again, and ironically even top-rate restaurants usually only carry the crapola. Anyway, I'll get off of it now...

If we beat FSU Saturday, I could drink warm Old Milwaukee and be happy.

Thanks; will try the Stone next time I find some.

If I must...there are countless amazing beers out there that are surely not to be limited by seasonal brewing...and while many of you have named some absolutely fantastic beers you must try some of the following..

1. Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock
2. Any of the Stone Beers, but especially Arrogant Bastard
3. I've got a 6L Val Dieu that I got for graduation that I'm saving for when we win a national title or some other memorable moment in my life
4. Dogfish Head Palo Santo (although I do prefer 90)
5. Bells 2 Hearted
6. Anderson Valley IPA
7. Bear Republic Racer 5

Corsendonk, Bornem, Gulden Draak, Gouden Carolus, Victory, Trout River, Harpoon, Troegs

I could go on for a long time...

Don't buy from Green's support Mac's!!!

on a side note don't ever knock PBR it has a blue ribbon for a reason...

finally, at the end of the day nothing smells quite like gameday then a 1/2 barrel of SW IPA on draft

GTBigBear brings the gospel...and not just because he is the title owner of a certain large, yellow tailgating vehicle that makes loud noises.

I like the Atlanta Brewing Co. Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (used to be a Winter-only beer, but it's now available year-round). Winter is definitely my favorite beer season, though...all the nice, rich stouts and malty lagers that come out go right down my alley.

My roommates and I are probably going to start our 3rd homebrew on Sunday, an Imperial Stout...should be interesting.

I may be alone here but I thought Yuengling was awful. I had it once at Clemson, but I was already pretty drunk there and couldn't tell. I had it in New Jersey later when I was sober and I it tasted like beer-flavored water to me. Maybe I just had a bad batch.

The beer GA really needs is Fat Tire. It's brewed in CO and not pasteurized though, but it would be nice if they opened up an east coast brewery.

I'm a Sweetwater 420 fan and agree with Beej about their Festive Ale. I have a couple at home I'm waiting to break out.

Yuengling is good, but not great. A lot of it's appeal was that you couldn't get it in GA. We used to have a student from PA who would bring a pallet or two back to GT every time she visited home. It was the forbidden fruit of beers.

That being said, I'm buying some today.

Flying Dog is another good beer. I really like their Tire Bite and Porter.

I had my first Georgia Yeung Ling last night at Taco Mac. It looks good on my passport club.

There are so many good beers that most probably haven't had the opportunity to try. My personal favorite favorite is the Black Buute Porter from Eugene Oregon. It can be found at Trader Joes in Atlanta. Some of my old favorites are the Samuel Smith line and Rogue when it was cheaper. I usually stick to a good IPA or Miller Lite these days.

I actually went to the Sweetwater Brewery last night for the first time...pretty sweet deal. Tried the Festive Ale, Sweet Georgia Brown, Blue, and 420 (wanted to try the Hummer, but it was out).

Festive Ale was my favorite, tasted like a stronger Newcastle.

Fat Tire from New Belgium is a great beer too...that's next on my list of beers I'm waiting for in GA.

I miss the old location off of Fulton Industrial. You used to be able to go and volunteer packaging bottles. You could pull straight off the line and drink while volunteer working. After they do the tour in the afternoon, everyone would go to the lobby and drink down on any brew there. I drank Festive straight from the hose. For your service, they would usually let you bring home 1-2 cases of your favorite brew. The new location isn't as open with the public as it was in the hayday.

The real question is...how many of you have built your own kegerator?

Of course...I'm tracking down an air leak right now so I don't have any delicious beer. I'll usually throw a cheap keg of Dundee's Honey Brown in it. Hopefully I'll have some Sam Adam's Winter Lager in there soon. It's getting hard to get 1/4 barrel kegs though (the downsides of building the kegerator out of a chest freezer..)

Oh, and PBR in a can at the Clairmont has never tasted better. And given the "sights" you'll end up seeing, I can guarantee you'll drink more than one :)

If you include building a kegerator as installing a tap on the side of the fire truck, then yes I have...it's actually pretty easy.

Shhh....don't tell people that it's easy. It sounds less impressive :)

I seriously might have to stop and see this firetruck on Saturday.
