The genius that is Paul Johnson

It's funny/strange IMHO that people think that Defenses will start to catch up to our offense to the point where they'll shut us down. You've got a guy in PJ who can draw something up mid game and it's pure genius. He's really perfected the TO into his own beautiful form. The whole argument that people will catch up to this offense can be made about any other team, the USC's the Florida's, even the OU/UT's of the world. But people haven't- and what does Tech have in common with all of them? A damn good and smart coach.

I can't tell you guys how happy other coaches in the SoCon were once Sewak was fired from GSU. They had 20+ years to figure it out and never could.

This sort of thing has become the main reason why I can tell people we'll be successfully. Paul Johnson's track record has too many just ridiculous/amazing things in it for someone to tell me he's going to get beaten out by the likes of Dabo Swinney and Randy Shannon and I even put Butch Davis there. Davis is decent, but so much of his success was at Miami in the Big East, and it is well recorded what happened when they moved to a more challenging league.

Davis is a solid coach, but he is an unbelievable recruiter. He doesn't waste talent.

This is true, but Shannon shows how that can't solve all problems, though Davis is better on the field than Shannon.

Also, I find it kind of funny how people think UNC is more likely to win the Coastal than we are. Not only to they play at us, but they're just about guaranteed an ACC loss because they go to Blacksburg on a Thursday night.

"More" challenging league?

That less "challenging league" you are referring to has just about owned the ACC title game. Looks to me more a function of Miami falling off the cliff than the ACC being better than the old Big East.

Well that has mostly been the work of Virginia Tech. Boston College had been the past 2 and 1 was on the wings of Matt Ryan (who wasn't around when both teams were in the Big East). Also, I'd say top to bottom ACC is usually harder to get through than the Big East.

However you're mostly correct, and it is also true that we are one of the larger things that pushed them off that cliff.

It is interesting. The Big East was less challenging for Miami. IIRC they continue to vex VT but the problem for Miami is they have to play 7 solid games to win the league instead of just beating VT head-to-head and largely coasting from there.

VT seems to match up better in our balanced league because they come to play every week.
