The ghost of Reggie Ball haunted us tonight

Nesbitt won tonight. Reggie lost, in much, much, much more painful fashion than anything close to tonight.

Not to say that Nesbitt's passing performance wasn't absolutely horrible tonight, because it was...


...but he did come up with a couple of big 3rd down passes late in the game. The 3rd and long play to Allen on the first series of the tying FG drive, and then another 3rd and long to Thomas to get us in range of the game-tying FG. There was also a dropped pass on 3rd down by Roddy earlier in the game.


No doubt that his stat line looks like it was cut-and-paste from the 2006 Georgia game, but lets at least give him some credit for coming up with big plays to extend two 4th quarter scoring drives (and when did Reggie ever do that, Beej?)


Oh yeah, he also also ran for 92 yards and was the go-to guy in the run game for the second half.

Nesbitt's force of will may have temporarily overcome The Ghost Of Reggie Ball, but I seriously think we need to perform some kind of real, substantial, exorcism ritual to cleanse BDS of his haunt.

Nesbitt had an off game. How much has Father Mario got left in the tank? Maybe he could take care of this.

This kid is a leader, he will find a way to get that offense moving or he'll do it himself. :bowdown:Nesbitt and PJ will find a way to win this game.
 
If Josh's incredibly gutsy performance at the Cess Pool doesn't embarrass people who wish to draw silly comparisons, then nothing will. Read Allen's interview on The Hive for a little additional insight.
 
Call me crazy, but I think Ball would be great in this offense. Think of the two things he does well, Running the Football and have testicles made of steel. Reggie's problem was being a 5'8" pro-style quarterback behind an O-Line that averaged 6-4. That is 6' he has to see/throw over. I don't blame reggie, I blame Gailey.

Agree with this.

Our feelings about Reggie would be TOTALLY different if we ran this offense when he was here. I can't defend this comments regarding the UGA game, but I think he would have been really good under PJ.

Hamilton didn't have a problem and he wasn't much bigger than ball

that's the misconception for a lot of watchers of the game that don't truly understand the actual parameters

you don't really throw over the 6"4 line...you throw bewtween the holes/creases/gaps etc. that they block to create.

that's what Reggie never learned how to do and Hamilton executed to perfection

A lot of people and people on hear don't understand those type of finer points of the QB position or the game in general (and I'm not pointing fingers at you)...I'm saying in general
 
It's also hard to say whether or not he would've been good or bad. Yes, he could run. But he damn sure couldn't pass. He also was a hot head and in order to run this offense you have to be and try to remain level headed.

you also have to be smart enough to understand the complexity and guiding principles of it...reading defenses and making smart decisions which Reggie didn't do for 4 yrs.

I actually think that Reggie would've been better served to be an slower A Back instead of QB. he doesn't have the understanding and intelligence of the game to be a good QB...regardless of the system.

But that's my opinion
 
If we sacrifice Patrick Nix, will that break the curse?

Reggie would have been exceptional in our offense. He would have made an outstanding A-Back.
 
Nesbitt's problem in most cases was throwing too late. We had open receivers; it is not true that Clemson had us covered. But Nesbitt looked at them, paused, pump faked to point out his target, and then passed. That gives a DB lots of time to compensate.

I thought his passes were pretty good, IF he had thrown them at the right time.

Not to try to bring up a QB controversy, but Jaybo was successful passing last year with horrible actual passes. But he threw them to open receivers and threw them on time.

I still think Josh will be okay. He has the right skills as long as he makes the right decisions.

But much was made of LSU having the "blueprint" to beat the triple option. I doubt Les Miles would agree they have a blueprint to beat the TO without fail. But they did have a plan to beat GT. The plan was to make Nesbitt beat them - stop Dwyer and stop the pitch and take your chances. We are going to see that "blueprint" more if Nesbitt doesn't start burning people for that choice.

P.S.
That first interception should have been a TD for GT. It was a great play call and poor execution. That play if successful also would have rattled the Clemson defense.
 
If anyone had a blueprint last year, it was UNC, Clemson, and UVA.

Now UVA has scrapped half that blueprint, and we managed to squeak by Clemson again.

Ball would have been a great option guy. I think Gailey wasn't head coach material, and didn't know what he had in Ball. Ball is a guy that thinks on the run... and I mean live action, he was great at not getting sacked. Ball was a real Tech guy, he hated UGA, and did his best every time. He was a talent, just not "lets sit in an NFL pocket talent." I will never take anything from guys wanting to be the best they can. But Joe was something VERY special! That guy does not come around every class in all of college football. Talk about the perfect option QB.
