The Hot Seat

Yeah, UNC's season reminds me a bit of our 2015 season. We weren't getting blown out in the same way they are, but it was still an uncharacteristically bad year compounded by lots of injuries.

McElwain will get another year. They should handle FSU this year.

Butch isn't on the hot seat. He's dead man walking.
Not sure UF will beat FSU. Possible no one wins. Insert Roadhouse gif.
EDIT. Fine I'll do it myself.

Tennessee's schedule is about to get easier. If the AD has decided to fire Jones, it might be better to do it now and put an interim coach in place. It's possible they could finish strong against Kentucky, Missouri, LSU, and Vanderbilt. The fans would view those wins as progress under a new head coach.

Ga Southern's coach already gone. Also, poor Lovie Smith. Dude was coaching in the Super Bowl at one point.

Also, Kingsbury for Falcons OC ! I kid.

I heard the argument the other day that firing Jones now would be a bad idea, because the AD might be pressured to hire the interim after he wins with that easy schedule, instead of looking for the best candidate from outside the program.

I don't really buy it. Tennessee fans are going to want a splash hire no matter what, I think.

If they were going to fire Butch during the season, he would have been gone after the Mutt debacle. Especially since an off week followed to give an interim two weeks before his first game. I thought he would get fired before the post game interview after leghumper game.

McElwain no way he should be fired. I actually thing Kingsbury (sp?) would make a good offensive coordinator. Head coach may be too much for him but he has some talent in running an offense. Fedora deserves another chance. Weird to me that Miss State coach never gets a bigger offer. Makes me think there is something we as the public don't know about him but it's known in AD circles.

Talk of firing McElwain is insane. Two SECCG appearances in two seasons. And frankly he's not out of it this year either. If UF can pull the upset this weekend and win out, and if UGA loses to AU, and UF is back in the SECCG again.

I don't get the Lovie Smith hire. NFL coaches are roster managers. What do they know of recruiting, wayward 18 y.o., multiple big-money donors, or the triple option — all things that competent CFB coaches have to deal with. Shoulda asked the GTAA for thoughts on 'mediocre pro coaches who are really nice guys.'

Lovie made it to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman at quarterback. It was s shame that defense went to waste. The Illini have been so bad for so many years most people forget they are in the Big Ten. It will take a Bill Snyder level of commitment to get them out.

Trust me, Fisher would be on that list if he didn't have a 40M buyout...he has done less with more than almost any coach in the country since 2014

Just what is the standard for "doing less with more" in your eyes? I have zero investment in Jimbo but in 2015 & 2016, FSU went 20-6, lost the Peach Bowl and won the Orange Bowl. This year he started the season at #2 and lost his starting QB in game one.

Only one fan base gets to have Nick Saban. FSU's just going to have to settle for going 59-5, appearing in 5 Big Six bowls, and winning a NC, over the past five years. We should all have such problems.

EDIT for my typo. FSU was 59-9 over the past five years.

I think Butch is ok for now. All of his losses have been quality losses.
I disagree. We should have beaten Florida and USCjr. Those teams are not good. With the talent we have, we should be 5-2 at worst. Honestly, we hung with UGA for a good amount of time, but kept shooting ourselves in the foot and the defense was just gassed by the ineptitude of the offense.

I could go into this for hours with you, but let me do the Cliff Notes version: they have recruited more talent than anyone else in the country, save Alabama, and that is actually pretty close. And this includes Clemson. Since 2014, he is now 22-10, and many of those wins were against crappy, sub .500 teams, he let hang around til the end of the game. And speaking of 2014, he EASILY could have lost 6 games. After the 2013 season, there has been a steady dropoff in on the field play without a talent dropoff. His current defense features (5) five star recruits, and (6) four star recruits, yet is full of players that loaf, exert basically no effort, and have zero pride in winning games.

People can say what they want about Ted Roof, but his 0, 2 and 3 star players play WAAAAY harder than Fisher's troops. He is paid 5.3 million dollars and given all the amenities he asks for. What he is giving his program right now is excuses, and has even started fighting with fans.
