The Hot Seat

Honestly, we hung with UGA for a good amount of time.
UGA led 24-0 at halftime. But I agree UT has a lot of talent and with a better coach, should be able to build quickly. UT obviously needs to hit a home run with this replacement, because Butch has become a nightmare. I don't think it will be hard to find a good coach, but it won't be a Gruden or Kelly. Need a young and hungry guy. UT has great facilities, support, and the cupboard ain't bare. I suspect they're already talking to some people.

Oh I know what the score was. We forced a turnover inside their 25 and then fumbled ourselves and then the wheels fell off. With exception of our game versus you all, I've been pretty satisfied with the D overall. The offense hasn't done the defense any favors.

I'm holding onto hope that we get a proven head coach and really don't want a G5 coach.

I gotta say, I'm no UT fan, but you folks deserve to hit a home run. Wishing any more pain on that fan base would violate the eighth amendment against cruel and unusual punishment. I actually thought D. Dooley would turn out to be a good one.

Dooley ended up being the worst hire in Tennessee athletic history. Maybe SEC. This next hire will be decided by the Haslam's , Peyton, and the big time money people. We've gone too long without having a title. Shut the öööö up about life champions. This next hire can't be Joe Blow from from directional state tech, it has to be a monster hire.

Or else... what? Many a fanbase has felt as you feel.

they have recruited more talent than anyone else in the country... crappy, sub .500 teams, he let hang around til the end of the game... he EASILY could have lost 6 games
So the complaints are (1) he could've lost some games he won, and (2) his recruits don't play up to expectations.

As for (1), that is a really stupid thing to complain about. I mean, I bet he could've won some games he lost, too. Does he get credit for those? For Pete's sake it took Bowden 18 years to win a NC, and it only took Jimbo 4 years.

And as for (2)... you gotta wonder, are any coaches or fanbases happier now that recruiting rankings have taken over CFB? Seriously, do they do anything other than get some fans momentarily excited before angering them? It's not like anyone is satisfied just winning in recruiting. And not to mention what they do to high school kids character and self-perception.

I hate being in a position of apologizing for anything FSU-ish. But I've got two close family members who are former FSU players, and they're both pretty satisfied with Jimbo. Like you'd expect reasonable people to be.

I could go into this for hours with you, but let me do the Cliff Notes version: they have recruited more talent than anyone else in the country, save Alabama, and that is actually pretty close. And this includes Clemson. Since 2014, he is now 22-10, and many of those wins were against crappy, sub .500 teams, he let hang around til the end of the game. And speaking of 2014, he EASILY could have lost 6 games. After the 2013 season, there has been a steady dropoff in on the field play without a talent dropoff.

I think that whole episode of his wife getting it with an ex-Florida wide receiver took some of the fire out of Jimbo.

His current defense features (5) five star recruits, and (6) four star recruits, yet is full of players that loaf, exert basically no effort, and have zero pride in winning games. People can say what they want about Ted Roof, but his 0, 2 and 3 star players play WAAAAY harder than Fisher's troops. He is paid 5.3 million dollars and given all the amenities he asks for. What he is giving his program right now is excuses, and has even started fighting with fans.

I remember people on this board being upset when Kelly wasn't retained as DC and Roof was hired.

I don't disagree with some of your points. Frankly, I think college football has indeed gone slap nuts in a lot of ways. I wish people appreciated things like they were in the era of my all time hero; Coach Bobby Dodd. But I am just pointing out the reality of things.

I live in Tallahassee, and I know Coach Fisher. He is actually a pretty good guy. But the major programs today are in an arms race, and fanbases are willing to pony up huge bucks. But with that, there are big expectations.

I do agree that the recruiting hype (a lot of it promoted by ESPN, Nike, Under Armour, etc.) has made it ridiculous. Whether someone thinks it is right or wrong, fanbases that see a coach bring in major talent don't understand losing a bunch of games to teams that should be greatly inferior to them

I do think his personal life has not been a good factor here. On a side note, the guy that got tabbed on internet for hooking up with Candi was falsely named. The guy that got accused was Taylor Jacobs, who did train her, but it was a trainer at Golds Gym instead. I feel for Taylor, a good guy with a wife and two kids who got a bad rap.

And let's also not forget that FSU was treading water for a good while before Bowden finally hung it up/was pushed out. Their defense at that time was particularly bad, with their offense (coordinated by Jimbo) at least being respectable.

Lovie made it to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman at quarterback. It was s shame that defense went to waste. The Illini have been so bad for so many years most people forget they are in the Big Ten. It will take a Bill Snyder level of commitment to get them out.

Yep, but so few programs, even ones that have sucked for years, are really willing to make a long-term time investment in a coach and accept that things will be bad for awhile. I guess Duke did with Cutcliffe, but that's about the only recent example I can think of.

You are really off base here. They started struggling at the end of the Bowden era, but for about 15 years they were the standard for defense. I am not sure what you are looking for here, but for a program that finished in the top 4 for 14 straight years, I would say the fanbase has a reason to not be happy. Are you watching tonight?

No, I'm not off base. I remarked that they struggled at the end of the Bowden era, and you replied by telling me I'm off base, then agreeing that they struggled at the end of the Bowden era, so it would appear that you are the one who is off base, guy who is off base.

And I've been watching off and on. FSU blows this year -- that's nothing new. It's obvious they have serious issues at QB and the rest of the team has folded in accordance.

I disagree. We should have beaten Florida and USCjr. Those teams are not good. With the talent we have, we should be 5-2 at worst. Honestly, we hung with UGA for a good amount of time, but kept shooting ourselves in the foot and the defense was just gassed by the ineptitude of the offense.
Lol.
I said it before the GT/UT game, and I'll say it now: UT is one of the worst teams on GT's schedule this year and everything UT has done to date has affirmed that. Duke competes with UT for worst team on our schedule, but it is debatable. UT is horrible, if not horrific. Bad team, bad coach.

They "blow"..."and that's nothing new"? Come on man. You are taking a freakin knife to a gunfight here. I am a lifetime Tech fan, but I have been around the FSU program for years.

They are a program that has 3 national titles since 1993, 14 straight top 4 finishes, and a 35 year bowl streak. But "they blow" is nothing new? There are waaaay bigger problems than a QB getting hurt, and anyone who is around the program knows it

You may need some help with reading comprehension. ITT you have 1) disagreed with my position that FSU was treading water at the end of Bowden's tenure...by then immediately conceding that this was the case, and 2) responding to my statement that FSU blows this year by bringing up titles from the 90s--which, by virtue of being in the 90s, did not occur this year. (In other words, I'm not saying that the prime FSU teams blow this year, because, well, they aren't playing this year.)

This thread started out with an assessment of coaches who might be on a hot seat. It has now morphed into you and me going around about the status of FSU football. You have your opinion and I have mine. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But I highly doubt you see and hear what I do about the program. The people around this program know it is much deeper than "the QB sucks, and the team has quit around him". Anyway, have a good night.
