I just finished looking at Miami's schedule.

8/28 Charleston Southern W 52-7
9/06 @ No. 5 Florida L 26-3
9/20 @ Texas A&M W 41-23
9/27 North Carolina L 28-24
10/04 Florida State L 41-39
10/11 UCF W 20-14
10/18 @ Duke W 49-31
10/25 Wake Forest W 16-10
11/01 @ Virginia W 24-17 OT

They barely lost to Florida State (just like we almost lost had it not been for that fumble); they barely lost to UNC; and they were beaten quite handedly by Florida, one of the best teams in this country (if not the best). Yes, I know that barely losing is still losing (VT game ...), but it is something to consider. And I know that looking at a team's past record is merely a glimpse of what they have to offer, but still, the have an impressive resume beating UVA and Wake in back to back weeks.

If we beat this squad, I think it's a pretty big accomplishment given the state of our o-line, etc. I know that no one is going to take this game lightly, especially since we are coming off a loss. I am excited to see how Miami does against VT, a team notorious for peaking in November. Regardless, we are going to be in for a treat on the 20th. I am already getting giddy for this one.

I agree, this game will be tough. Miami is showing every bit as much promise as we are this year.

Can anyone believe we're going to 4IAR on Miami? Ever think that was possible when they joined the league?

Miami also played Florida very tough for 3 quarters and that UNC game could've gone either way.

They're going to be a tough out for GT, but then again, who isn't a tough out for us?

Wull dang, Cajan, why'd you have to do this?

I had gotten up a good deal of confidence about this game, and now you show me this. Based on these scores, we are playing a very good football team next Thursday. As good as we are on paper certainly. Our home crowd needs to help us get over the hump on this one.

Re: Wull dang, Cajan, why'd you have to do this?

This Miami team is also young. I am predicting the ACC Coastal division will be one of the strongest divisions in all of college football in the next few years.

GT will be getting better (new coach).
UNC will be getting better (new coach).
Miami will be getting better (young team).
VT will still be good (look at the past 10 years).
UVA isn't a pushover.
Duke is the token worst team of the division.

I think we will beat Miami.

We are at home...huge plus for us.

From Heather, the ACC reporter for ESPN.com

BEST OFFENSES (In the ACC)

1. Florida State. The Seminoles are the most successful team when it comes to third down conversions and have more first downs than anyone. They're also No. 2 in the league in scoring offense at 30.4 points per game, No. 2 in rushing offense behind Georgia Tech, and lead the league in total offense with 355.3 yards per game.
2. Miami. The Canes have the No. 1 scoring offense in the ACC, and are No. 2 in total offense.
The Wake Forest offense has been up and down this season, but against ACC opponents, the Deacs are averaging a league-worst 15.8 points per game. Maryland is one spot better at 17.2. And both are in the hunt to win the Atlantic.
We'll see how these strengths and weaknesses factor in as the race winds down.

That game was only close because FSU spent the second half looking for hookers on South Beach. I think they're another team that looks inflated by their schedule. To me, they are a less good FSU. Young, athletic defense that swarms the ball. Average offense that looks better due to their opponents. We're at home, on a Thursday Night, last home game of the season, in front of a crowd, for "White Out" night.

Do I think we win this game? Yes. Would I put down money on it. No. Miami has some talent. But I think that we will beat a team with Patrick Nix calling the shots on offense.

They played FSU, UNC, and UVA to the wire.

They're damn good. Easily as good as we are.

This game will be tough to win.

This is definately not going to be an "easy" game by any stretch of the imagination, however I think we have two things on our side. First, we are at home which is huge. Second, Miami is a very aggressive young defense. They will flock to the ball and over pursue. This is pretty much what FSU did and why they got gashed. The teams that "stay at home" and stay in their gaps and play disciplined defense are the teams that succeed against this offense. I think Miami will be too hyped up and too aggressive and end up getting burned.

But, I think this is a VERY close game.

With our offensive line problems we are at a definite disadvantage to Miami. Their strength is their defensive line and linebackers or their front 7. If Shannon is smart he will run a lot of confusing stunts and blitzes to take advantage of our inexperience and reduced talent on our offensive line.

This makes this game a tough one for us. Our defense is capable of holding the Canes down but we have shown a lot of cracks in our D over the past 3 games so I am concerned if we do not come out and really attack them on D we might end up giving up too many points to win.

It probably will come down to turnovers and that is an area we just do not fair well in.

I think Coach Johnson is running out of bullets and he will have to call on all of his wizardry to pull this one out for the Jackets. Can we do it, yes we can. Will we do it, only time will tell.

Go Jackets!

After watching the VT vs. Miami game, we HAVE to be mistake free against these guys. They are a confident group of guys. They have a mobile quarterback in Marve and I hope we can contain that guy.

I am really excited for this game after seeing how good this Miami team is. 6 days and 21 hours to go ...

I thought Miami looked bad last night, VPISU just looked worse. Patrick Nix still has the ability to turn seven points into three with his play calls. And the way that he rolled out Marve and had him scramble reminded me of Ball. And they still had a chance to lose the game.

They gang tackle and swarm the point of attack, which is good for us. Their receivers have hands made of granite, which is good for us. They have some talent, that is for sure. But coaching seems to be done with a copy of "Football for Dummies". We're too good to lose to this team at home on a Thursday Night in front of the last home crowd of the season.

I don't know about the ancient idea of "We have to play mistake free football." I'd imagine that the majority of the time that a team wins a game when a comment like that is made, they did not play mistake-free football. I think it's silly to say that if we turn the ball over more than once or something, we won't win. If the score is 7-7 in the second quarter and we throw an interception, nobody is going to be heading home.

We very clearly need to play good football because we're playing a good team. But we can beat them without some bizarre list of things we must avoid in order to do so. We'll probably still be frustrated with the offensive line when the game is over and we'll probably be discussing whether or not Josh is going to be 100% for the Georgia game.

Thursday night is not going to go perfectly and I don't believe it has to in order for us to win.

I thought the opposite. I don't like our chances against them. Both teams looked very sharp last night IMO.

The one thing I did hear, which was pleasing to me, is how the Miami DC has "Simplified their defense" and "allowed their speed to the ball to compensate." That's good news.

I also felt a lot better every time they showed Patrick Nix on camera.
