The offense looked HORRIBLE today

Especially our running game.

I hope we have it fixed for BC next week.

Wow nearly 400 yards on the ground not enough for you? lol BOR where was that "Vanilla Offense" today?

I could see Chan congratulating TC during the first quarter while saying "you have your 100+ yards. Now hit the bench." Then Dwyer comes along and gets more yardage than TC.

Today's downside: Taylor didn't get enough work. I thought he looked good, though. Passes were crisp and on target except for one obvious overthrow.

Truth here. Would have liked to see the 69 points take a little longer to gain, but the running game is just too good and I can't fault them for that. I think Taylor will be fine.

I just can't find a thing to bitch about here.
We scored enough points to win and that's what matters most. Not many years ago we'd have to jump out and get as many points as we could then call in the US Marines to help protect our lead. Didn't today tho.

The third string offense could use some work. They only put up 7 points. What is Chan thinking? He must go.;)

By the way, I bet Buzzoff is a ghost town this week.

Seriously, the only area of concern against Samford was an area of concern last week --that being third down efficiency.

GT was 5-13 last week and 2-11 yesterday --however GT did convert 5 of 5 fourth downs against Samford.

Yeah, we didn't have too many passing situations today and Chan won't go away from a running game that's working. But Taylor did go 8/9 today, a statistic I don't think Reggie ever sniffed against even the worst competition.

Most of those were swing passes and screens though.

I would like to see us stretch the field more.

This is true, but Reggie would sometimes have trouble with even those easy passes. After the ND game jitters, he seems to look very consistent in short, easy passes and adequate in longer ones. We could never be sure before if Reggie wouldn't screw up even the simplest things.

Not to be a debbie downer, but TB went 8/9 throwing swing passes and hook / stop routes...the TD pass he missed worries me as it seems to be a pattern now. We need to establish a vertical passing game...the run won't work forever. Next week will be a good test.

(sorry Kyle, just realized I repeated what you said, but glad someone else sees it too)

We will never be a championship team until we develop a passing game. GT has been at or near the bottom quartile in NCAA passing stats for all 5 years under Gailey and his sixth year is starting out the same way.

Yesterday's game was not in doubt-- even before the opening kickoff. The game was a great opportunity to practice the passing game.

Opportunity lost.

Passing games take repetition to improve. We blew a great opportunity to practice in a game situation. Instead, only 12 passing attempts, and many of those were behind the line of scrimmage. A waste of a day's work.

So yes, it was a horrible offensive effort--one that will come back to haunt us.

Yes, I'm sure the daunting D of Stamford would have given TB all the experience he needs to take on NFL-quality teams. The truth is our third-string practice squad would give TB a better workout. But let's instead claim the world is coming to an end since GT football is looking so well nationally right now.

I wouldn't say it was a horrible offensive effort(obviously we hung 69 points on them), but I too was very surprised that TB didn't air it out more. Sure Samford's D sucks, but last week vs. ND Taylor missed a couple of open receivers for easy touchdowns, and that is something that Samford could have let us practice. There is a big difference between throwing in practice and throwing in a game, even if the game is against Samford.

Who knows though, maybe we are just playing opossum. We will find out Saturday.

Also, NFL quality teams? We are talking about his college career, and the ACC no less.

I would have like to see Taylor play a little bit longer with BC( IMO the second best time in the ACC. ) next week, but if we can run the ball like we have so far it wont mater. Eat the clock keep there offense of the field and we will be fine.

I for one wasn't overly impressed with Bennett yesterday, and wish he had gotten more work with the passing game; but after we went up 28-0 in the first quarter it kind of limited what we could do offensively. I mean really, we would have looked like classless turds airing the ball out when we were up 4+ touchdowns. If Taylor Bennett had stayed in to work the passing game, and gotten hurt, I think we would all be second guessing Gailey for not pulling the starters.

It looked like Gailey tried unsuccessfully to slow down the scoring. The good thing is, that we played approximately 70 different players before the end of the 3rd quarter. The depth on this team appears to be outstanding.

Yep, we have to have a balanced attack to be a championship team. But in Chan's defense, I believe the reasons we have not lit up the airways under Chan is because our running game has been successful and we have not had an accurate passer at QB until now. Pro coaches generally believe you should build defense and a running game first because you cannot win consistently without them.

I agree with you, however. To go all the way we have to be able to throw the ball.

:laugher:This is absolutely the worst statement I have EVER seen on Stingtalk. I about laughed out loud. I can guarantee that TB not throwing more passes against Samford isn't going to come back to haunt us! He might as well be throwing against Brookwood or Parkview.
