Taquan Marshall is an absolute baller. I was scared about not having someone to fill Justin's shoes. He's fast as hell, he seemed like he was making the right reads, or running around everyone a la JT5 style when the play blew up, and his arms is not bad. He overthrew on a few plays, but no interceptions and also no underthrows, which would have been worse.

Benson is a beast. The kid barely ran for less than 4 yards. We won't miss Dedrick or Marcus Marshall. We were able to pummel Tennessee up the middle all game thanks to him.

I don't know if Tennessee offensive line was horrendous or if we've gotten much better but the defense played lights out for 3 quarters and halfway through 4th quarter. Then they gave up as customary for Tech defense. But I liked a lot of what I saw.

If it wasn't for a few stupid mistakes we could have walked away 1-0. But I think this team has what it takes to make it a special season. As long as they don't let this kill their whole momentum.

And once again, öööö that kicker.

Glad both TaQuon and KirVonte came out of that game seemingly uninjured.

This game literally didn't matter. Even that loss was way better for our team than opening against a patsy and having no idea what we've got going forward.

Besides the fact that we lost to Tennessee for the next 24 years until we play them again

The game does matter. Gotta wonder about their mental state after crapping their pants with a very short turnaround for the next game.

QB and b-back looked every bit as good as last year's. D looks suspect when it matters, special teams was a clown show. We also don't know if UT is any good.

I could hardly care less about Tennessee outside of their game against us. This sucks because we lost, but I really don't care about bragging rights or whatever against Tennessee. They'll flounder their way through another season like they have for the last decade, and after they lose to Bama, their fans will be speculating what it will take to finally land Gruden.

This excites me even more because our offense often takes a few weeks to get clicking. If we're already looking this strong, I have good vibes about the rest of the season. Get better at taking care of the ball and we'll be a force.

I agree from a conference standpoint this game meant nothing.. it's hard to imagine any scenario where this game matters except to put fire and piss in these guys hearts

This game reminded me of our opener in 2012.

Reminded me of UGA '13. Outplay the other team for 3.5 quarters and shit the bed in OT. So painful, but totally expected.

Other than a miracle against UGA in 2014, we are terrible in OT. IIRC since 2011 we are something like 1-5 in OT games, all but one involved blowing 2 score leads (Utah in 2011 bowl, 2012 Miami, 2013 UGA, this abortion of a game). Whatever the opposite of clutch is, that's what we are in OT.

Interesting question. The opposite of clutch is lose.

I really wish we would have tried the dive play for 2. Benson is strong, the OL was getting push. Tell them to fire off the ball and they HAVE to get a TD.

Oh well.....hindsight.

I was wondering why we didn't run Benson on that play too.

Well, we certainly have that down.

It would be much easier to stomach if the game was back and forth the entire way through, but the only time we trailed was when they scored their last TD.

Everyone in my section was saying that losing the way we did was "the most Tech thing ever", and it's true. I wonder how we compare with other teams in terms of blowing 10+ point 4th quarter leads. I can think of quite a few in the last few years.

I hate myself for it, and obviously wasn't going to post it here, but in a conversation with some fans of other teams, I told them we were going to lose the game as soon as I saw how things changed when Benson walked off the field. Up until then, I was buying in to the idea that we were about to blow them out. When we fumbled shortly after, I knew I was right and my fit of rage and self-loathing began in earnest.

You're forgetting 4th and Nesbitt against Wake in 09.
