The return of Uncle Rico

Didn't Notre Dame bring in their own defensive consultant just for us? I don't think it was really Van Gorder's defense last year

Yeah, the other guy spent all year developing a scheme and then handed the scheme to Van Gorder, who ran it for him during the game.

This is honestly pretty shitty news.

Is it legal to have that many coaches on staff? Is the cap only on field coaches?

Could we hire a different DC for each game to do game planning and keep them all on staff?

He's been there for two weeks. Pretty sure at Notre Dame they spent all season preparing for a 3O offense because of Navy.

UGA is looking at a senior quarterback running a sophisticated offense that just now seems to be hitting on a few cylinders, using young kids that aren't doing a great job against normal offenses this year.

Occasionally, we play a team that has no clue what they are doing to prepare for the Tech offense. Syracuse, a few years back, might be a good example. I don't think Miss State in the Orange Bowl did anything special to prepare, and it showed. But most of the teams we play regularly have a defensive strategy and devote extra time to prepare for Tech. Teams that blow up the OL and disrupt the QB right after the snap can cause a lot of trouble. Confusing the QB by changing alignments and tricking him into making the wrong reads is a challenge. But it's not always easy to execute those things after a week of preparation, and just remember: JT has seen it all.

This. I don't think Smart is "scared" of anything, just respects the challenge of facing a speed option with a lot of young guys on defense, most of whom haven't played against this system anywhere. Richt also used extra time, BYE weeks, etc. throughout the year to prepare for Johnson's attack. Like someone said, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I've told everybody this one's a tossup. I personally don't like the matchup from a UGA perspective. You guys aren't high on your D, but we have an awful offensive line--better QB but worse OL, by far, than last year. We haven't been able to "run all over" Nicholls State or Louisiana-Lafayette, so no reason to think we can do it Saturday. Again we'll have to live or die on a freshman's arm. If GT can hit a couple of home runs as it did last week, the game slides in Tech's favor. Much less confident than, say, last year.

OT: Out of curiosity, where did the"delete in an hour" meme start? Was it that West Virginia guy during the conference realignments?

Somebody on a VT forum noticed our A-backs went in motion before we snapped the ball and left a message on their board telling the more connected members to inform the coaches, IIRC. Just to make sure the enemy couldn't know that they knew, he said he planned to clean up the trail by deleting the post in an hour.

You are giving away our ööööing secrets. Delete in an hour.

This is longestday's film room analysis of Tech vs. Van Gorder from the ND game last year.

This is a million times more interesting than whatever the hell my MIL is talking about this morning. Thanks for this.
