The Zone to address GT and Pollack @ 8:06

Wow, they are extremely defensive. What kind of reaction did they expect from Tech fans?

I mean, this whole thing is overblown. I'll give Pollack a chance to not suck. And the show will probably be redone anyway in February when they realize that they have Chuck Oliver and David Pollack as their drive-time guys during college basketball and spring training baseball season.

Steak and the boys seem to have had their feathers ruffled by some of the e-mails they have received from Tech fans for bringing Pollack aboard.

Ok, one more thought:

I'm not thrilled that Pollack's on the drive time, but really that's based more on not knowing if he'll be any good at all to listen to, and not his UGA background.

What annoyed me was the big buildup leading up to his debut... "the biggest announcement in the history of the station!!!!" I honestly thought the new guy would be someone like Tony Barnhardt, who really would be a pretty good "name'" get here in Atlanta. And then to make the announcement with audio highlights of Pollack's career - well, that's not going to please the Jackets.

When they were playing the highlights, I honestly thought, please God tell me Brent Musberger's the guy they're bringing in from this highlight...

I didn't have a chance to listen. Can someone recap their comments?

Thanks.

Well they read one email or blog entry or something on air, from a tech fan saying that they wished Pollack would break his neck. I didn't hear that part, but it got the reaction you might expect.

It was really pretty informative, and a good segment. I feel a lot better about the hire. I especially liked Dimino's comments, something to the effect of, "Well if he changes his name to Superdog and starts slamming Tech all the time, we might have problems." We unfortunately did NOT hear Steak say that, which would have made me feel better, but whatever.

I listened yesterday, and didn't hear him dog out Tech. That's a good sign. I suppose we'll see.

When The Zone first cranked up I was both an avid listener and caller. Over the past couple of years I have burned out on the station and rarely listen in, so I probably don't care one way or the other about Pollack. I don't listen to games on 790 because I cannot pick up the station in Cumming --WREK or 107.1 fills that void.

790 The Zone is irrelevant. I could not even get their internet feed on Saturday.

w/ xm or sirius I am surprised at all the 790 buzz. Your quality of like will improve if you purchase a satelite subsription

He'd have to speak to have done that. Mike and Chuck are going to run all over him for a while until he gets comfortable with it.

He did offer some good NFL insight.

I was listening yesterday at like 6:30PM. Is that when Pollack is supposed to be on? I didn't hear him say a word.

Thanks for the update.

Not about 790 in particular, but every AM and most FM stations just suck these days. Commercial breaks every 4 minutes and constant advertising for the other shows on the station, it hurts my head to listen to it. Message boards and such have come close to making them obsolete, and honestly I'd rather ride in silence than listen to any of those guys spout off whatever the latest rumor is to get a reaction.

Excellent point actually. It's like all of the bitching about the AJC. My usual response is "you still read the newspaper?" Digital media is blowing all of this stuff away today and it's even easier to vote with page views than my dollar.

I still read other newspapers.

790 was pathetic before the Pollack hire. The signal is weak. Mike Bell is a goofball; all of his impressions sound the same. The Stu's are illiterate embarrassments, ie., "We is down in the dawghouse...alright, alright." Everyone else wants to shave their heads and look like the next guy. XM and Sirius are much better.

F that.

Im not EVER listening to 790 The Dawg.

We all need to put the pressure on Drad to dump 790...IF enough fans do that, it will make a difference...It may not be an immediate change, but at least a possibilty down the road...
