Intentional grounding would be a stretch. If the QB is getting hit while throwing the ball then you can't judge the intended target by where it lands.

well, its either a pass or it is not. if it cannot be a fumble, then as long as the ball is not tipped, it should be only dependent on where the ball landed.

the rule should make sense on both sides, not just for the QB. i think it SHOULD be intentional grounding and then the QBs will quit throwing the ball away to avoid a sack, b/c that IS why they created the intentional grounding rule. and he is clearly not throwing it to anyone at all

Yeah, I have never seen intentional grounding called on that. In fact, I believe that if the ball is tipped, then you can't call intentional grounding. With a play like that the ball is FAR more than tipped. In any case, the NFL came out and said that the play was reviewed. Since they felt it was definitively a fumble, they didn't hold things up for two minutes because the game was over.

I have heard soooo many people bitching about the game. Look, there was MAYBE two calls that you can legitimately look at and say the Cardinals got jobbed. For the other fifty billion they got, they earned. Gandy got called for holding at least three times because he just couldn't block Harrison. In fact, the refs overturned two key plays for the Steelers when challenged by the Cards. Sure looks like the officials had it out for them to me... :rolleyes:

We aren't talking about what you think the rule "should be" but what the rule is.

In your opinion (biased opinion to boot), he is "not throwing it to anyone at all"? In the opinion of the officials, obviously it was not "clear" that it was not intended for a receiver.

This play wasn't unique to this game. QBs get hit often while throwing that causes the ball to fly off course.

Oh. Same idea though. You're not gonna get Intentional Grounding on that. Ever. The ball was "tipped" (in actuality, much more than tipped), so you can't call I.G.

Yeah as long as you have QBs who believe they can throw the ball away like that it will be harder to call I.G. while he's getting tackled. If anything is to be changed in this it must focus on the fact that QB's will throw the ball to avoid the sack. If you don't change that then it's all moot, cause I will agree you can't definitively call I.G. on a QB who is throwing while a defensive player is throwing himself on the QBs throwing arm. This is just my opinion, not stated as fact.

the ball was NOT tipped. Harrison hit the QBs arm. then the QB moves his arm forward and throws the ball. of course he is just throwing it away. that is not allowed. unless the BALL IS TIPPED (after release) it should be Intentional Grounding on its face

refs should start calling it. if you dont want to get the IG, then dont throw the ball away, that is the whole point

In this angle, he looks down before scoring. Don't get me wrong, I don't care personally. I'm also certainly not complaining about the refs, as I think they jabbed both teams evenly.

Though I must admit, this parallax argument could be correct. Who knows?

the key is here, the arm and ball are not on the ground, but on Fitzgerald's leg. arguably the ball is about to break the plane right there (hard to tell from this angle) but note that both of Fitz's feet are in the end zone already



then he just slides and rolls over, IN!

i do think they looked at this exhaustively at the time, b/c that was a 7 point question.

you can also clearly see that Fitz has Harrison by the facemask.

so if he didnt score, it should have been 1st and goal from the 1, since the half cannot end on a defensive penalty. they didnt call it, but it is clear as day.

so none of the AZ whiners have any kind of a point to make here
