I have seen opinions in the late spring and preseason fall where our offense is so much ahead of last year, that we were unstoppable, our OL is much better, so on and so on, by people that should know. I ask myself what is the situation and I have come down to 3 possibilities.
1) The offense is worse than last year. I disregard this as we have supposedly a better OL than last year and we still have JN and JD. I don't subscribe to the 3 games in 12 days theory but there are other possibilities. Maybe too tired after fall camp, some virus going around, who knows for sure.
2) Both Clemson (which we should have lost to except for a fake field goal) and Miami have upgraded in personnel and coaching and we have not This is a fact. Clemson had 3 guys with 4.3 speed and we were trying to play a high school safety with 4.5 speed at corner in his 2nd game. The new OC at Miami is miles above Patrick Nix. Both of these teams are at the very top of the ACC. I don't think Womack is on this level yet.
3) The competition has caught up to our offense, particularly if they have athletic DL's. I also put some credence into this thought. I don't know for sure, but I doubt if PJ has ever coached against 3 teams with as much talent and coaching ability as our last 3 D-1 opponents.

To me, if PJ doesn't evolve his offense into something that can compete on this level, and make some tough decisions on defense as far as coaching goes, we are in for real long term trouble. But I do think he can and will, but probably not this year. But there is still hope if we can get our act going and beat UNC and VPI and make a run of it. I hope I am surprised and still have a lot of confidence in PJ. Anyway, as we all know, Saturday is a crucial game for us with a team more on our level talent wise at this stage in our program. As my wife tells me, "we shall see".

We are 2-1 after playing two ACC teams that might play each other in the ACC championship game, and Jax St. who almost upset FSU. We're not playing well in many respects, but most teams have problems early in the season. I'm tired of the desparate panic in so many posts. This is supposed to be fun.

I don't think it is time to start agreeing that "everybody else has figured out our offense." We are in year 2 of a totally different system and are still learning. We are missing blocks left and right and that, if made, would produce long runs.

The first question is can we produce a team that can run our offense properly on a consistent basis. The answer to that question lies somewhere in the future, but I believe we can.

The second question is can we get a good defense in place to support our offense. The overwhelming answer is NO, but I'm keeping the faith we get it figured out soon.

I am much more in favor of getting rid of Wommack if we don't improve this year. As for PJ, I'm happy with him captaining the GT ship. I'm staying on it even if it sinks, but I'm willing to give him a few years to get everything in place. If it sinks, it'll take a long time to turn around. But it won't sink.
