This board amazes me

I wouldn't bet against our players either. I am amazed by how these kids can go through this process as football players.

However, I think I would start betting against some of our coaches and staff that get paid to prepare the players for the field.

+1 on the first paragraph.

And a double +1 on the second. I hope you're referring to all the coaches.

It's more about college football then about internet tools, or our coach or players. You lose this game therefore you have 0 hope of winning a national title. If the conference winners +2 invites played an 8 team playoff I'd be a bit more excited. Now the only thing left is beating Georgia.

EXACTLY.

Let's just forfeit the rest of our games so we can prepare for them. Those games are meaningless anyway.

I'd take losing the rest of our games and stomping UGA over winning all remaining games but losing to UGA. Or are you one of those people eager to hang an "ACC Coastal Division Champion" banner up ?

It's kind of true. Obviously they're not meaningless, but all of a sudden we don't have a goal to work towards beyond "let's beat the opponent in front of us." I mean, we don't even get to play Miami again, so we can't even control our own destiny in the ACC now. Definitely one of the advantages the NFL has over college.

True, but there is so much more football to be played. VT takes care of UM then we at least have the opportunity to even things up at the top of the Coastal --discounting the tiebreaker of course.

UM plays the same teams out of the Atlantic as GT does --FSU, CU and WF.

VT has it easier with BC, MD and NCSt --big advantage for the Hokies IMO.

And if all this happens our reward will be to go play in a BCS bowl game that no one cares about, probably won't sell out, will be against some crappy Big East team, and is going to be expensive as hell to get to and stay(the tickets of course will be cheap.)

Sometimes I really hate the ACC.

EDIT: Not that I am trying to be a downer. Obviously I want to win the ACC. But I really think we get a raw deal with the Orange Bowl. It's insanely far from the Big East, not really within driving distance of any except two schools in the ACC, and there's nothing really unique about it. The Rose Bowl has the history, the Sugar Bowl has New Orleans and the French Quarter, the Fiesta Bowl has....well...okay, the Fiesta Bowl sucks too.

What is the 3 way tie breaker, anyway? As in if VT beats scUM, we beat VT and we all win out in conference? BCS ranking?

While I don't think going to the ACC champ game/BCS game is a great prize for a good season, I argue that the following are important:

1.) Winning every home game
2.) Winning the ACC
3.) Beating UGA
4.) Winning the turnover battle
5.) Going 11-1 or 10-2.

I think 1-4 are extremely important because those are goals that PJ thinks are important. If we can meet his goals, then good things will happen over time. True we probably have NO chance to make any kind of NC game, but I didn't expect us to this year anyway. If we can achieve 1-4 then I think this season is a huge success.

Achieving #5 is big in my opinion because big time schools win 10 or more games during the regular season. We have not done this for a LONG time. If we accomplish all 5 things, the rankings, and the big recruits, followed by more big seasons will come.

If we fold it in because we can't make a NC game then we don't put ourselves in position to make it there any other upcoming year.

I'm still very excited for what our potential is this year. We haven't lived up to it for 3 games, but we're 2-1 even during poor play with 9 games left to show we can be a top team.

ACC Football Tiebreaker Policy

The Atlantic Coast Conference Championship will be decided by a game between the Atlantic and Coastal Division Champions. The team in each division with the highest percentage of wins during all regular-season Conference competition shall be declared the division champion. If two or more teams are tied with the highest percentage of wins, they shall be declared division co-champions. Division standings will be calculated on a percentage basis, using only those Conference games which are a part of the regular rotating schedule. In the event of division co-champions, the following tie-breaker procedure will be used to determine that divisions’ representative to the championship game.

A. Two-Team Tie
  1. Head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.
  2. Records of the tied teams within the division.
  3. Head-to-head competition versus the team within the division with the best overall record (divisional). Conference record and proceeding though the division. Multiple ties within the division broken from first to last.
  4. Overall record versus all common non-divisional opponents.
  5. Combined record versus all non-divisional teams.
  6. Record versus common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish (divisional and non-divisional) and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
  7. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the end of regular season games shall be the divisional representative in the ACC Championship Game.
  8. The representative shall be chosen by a draw.
B. Three (or More) Team Tie

(Once tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaker format is used)
  1. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
  2. Records of the tied teams within the division.
  3. Head-to-head competition versus the team within the division with the best overall (divisional or conference) record, and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken first to last.
  4. Overall record for non-divisional teams.
  5. Combined record versus all common non-divisional teams.
  6. Record versus common non-divisional with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional record) and proceeding through the other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within the division.
  7. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the conclusion of regular season games shall be the divisional representative in the ACC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the ACC Championship Game.
  8. The representative shall be chosen by a draw.

Don't worry we won't need a tie breaker. I highly doubt we win the conference this year. Unless if we have been seeing Dr. Jekyl lately and we turn into Mr. Hyde for the rest of the season, it's gonna be some tough sledding. I'm just being a realist and not a homer.

I'm not quick to jump off the ship yet.

We had equally as bad a start last year on Offense as we did this year. The difference in my opinion is what we knew it was going to be...we were taking a big hit on the DL production. It's hurt us so far, but I will contend that the offenses of Miami&Clemson are greater than BC & VPI were last year (our first two ACC games last year).

We didn't score much in our first two ACC games there and still turned it around. I'm willing to give it time before I say we're done. If we lose to VPI again this year (or UNC) then I'd say yea we're pretty close to being done. But I think we win both of those games. Just a hunch.

We put up 30 against a good Clemson team (the naysayers will point that our O only got 16 points and ST got 14) but we still had 30 at the end of the day. And we got 17 when nothing was going right against Miami.

Last year against BC and VPI we had 19 and 17. So you're looking at pretty much the same offense contribution against roughly similar defenses. I think we will be fine.

Cajunjacket, watching that highlight reel in your sig fires me up and reminds me of what we can become! I'm slowly getting pumped about UNC Saturday and glad I bought yet another plane ticket to go watch the game.

No need to belittle any players or coaches.

What bothers me is what seems to be a lack of intensity. Playing one good half and then one bad half (ugag, lsu, jsu, cu).

After jsu CPJ said we are too nice and it still seems to apply. Too many penalties as well.

Now we will face the best D line we have faced this year.

Those plane tickets get expensive man. I think I've spent around $700 in plane tickets and I'm driving to three of the games!
