But they do enter a disproportionate number of winter events for their size of a country. Not knocking it, but it is a winter wonderland and their best athletes gravitate toward winter sports.

The two sports that people do care about (optimistically including basketball) are populated by hired guns who wouldn't be at the school otherwise in about 90% of the cases, but we get all weepy about providing them "Opportunity" when the only reason we are providing it is because they are either 6'8" or 250+ pounds and athletic.

Title IX already requires us to hire a bunch of mercenaries to do things nobody cares about (other than their family and friends), so why pay for more you don't have to?
 
Congrats OP! You have set the bar pretty high for most bigcrys. That record will be pretty hard to break!
 
An honest answer for why we don't do well in these multi-sports awards.

GT was just not as big as these public schools at the top of the rankings, so we didn't have as many male sports before Title IX. When Title IX happened, GT was also more male and so we didn't have to create as many female sports as, say, UNC.

UNC could theoretically drop enough male and female sports to be at the NCAA Div. I minimum like GT is. In practice, an AD may not want to rock the boat with alumni by unnecessarily closing wrestling or swimming programs, even if that means more revenue dedicated to the revenue sports.
