This guy goes on a ramble about what Bobby Bowden has done for FSU and how they were nothing before him, and how no fan has the right to question him about when he leaves Florida State. WTF?! Aren't we the fans the ones that write the checks for these coaches? If we don't have say, who does?

Bobby Bowden, and all these idiot head coaches in major college football, get tons of money thrown at them to win games. If they lose, they are thrown out a job like a dog. If they win, they are treated like utter royalty. This is the business of the game. The coaches are more than willing to accept this for the chance to make millions. They know what the deal is. Yet when we as the patrons of their "empires" feel displeased, and judgment time comes, the rules don't apply? Since when does doing your job well mean that you are above criti**** or reproach? And these dip**** writers keep this pure, unblemished thought of a college football utopia alive? I see... it's only a business when it comes to getting the most money, but it is a pure, amateur organization the rest of the time.

Eff these writers, these coaches, these ADs, and all the power brokers of college football. **** you all. You want your cake and eat it too? **** you.

It's tough - I wasn't around for the end of Bobby Dodd's tenure but could you imagine our fanbase turning on him like this?

I agree.

Would you be willing to add a link to your wonderful signature that would allow readers to access a larger version of the photograph appearing therein? It's very frustrating and harmful to my eyes as is.:o

I mean, that's essentially who FSU has right now: their "Bobby Dodd". Their football field is named for him, for crying out loud.

But unfortunately, college football is a business. Coaches make teams that win games, wins draw fans, and fans buy merchandise. If your team isn't winning, then you've got none of that.

Bowden led FSU through what is likely to be its most successful run ever, but it's done. Just like an unsuccessful president isn't re-elected, or an unproductive manager gets fired, an unproductive head coach won't get their contract extended.

I just think that Bowden wanted to leave on his own terms. I honestly think that he wanted to leave in 2010, and now this whole bullcrap uprising against him has sealed the deal.

I'm honored to have attended games in which he has coached, and I'll always respect the man... something that FSU needs to learn how to do instead of protesting their greatest coach ever...

For God's sake, some of the students who organized this "blackout protest" weren't around for nearly HALF of his coaching tenure...

In my opinion, Bobby Bowden getting fired or run off wouldn't be any worse than what happened to Bobby Cremins.

Coach Dodd had the good sense to realize that the game was passing him by. At any rate, recruiting was about to get much tougher and as he put it "We exceeded our expectations in 1966 and it was time" We have a saying in south Georgia, "Its a smart dog that knows when its time to get on the porch and let the young dog run the yard." Seems apt in this case.

All this stuff about mistreating Bowden is valid, and maybe they aren't respecting him like they should, but the man doesn't know when to quit. At some point you have to step in to stop the mediocrity. Granted, the program may go downhill before it improves, specifically in recruiting, but regardless; its time for a new face to be running that program. I don't think Fisher is the person for it, but they need to move on from Bowden.

In addition, Andrews is over the hill. Like I said, I'm still not sure about Jaybo. They desperately need to improve their coaching staff.

The difference is that no one from the administration of board of trustees went after Bobby in the papers. This is something that has to be negotiated/settled behind the scenes.

I understand that the situations are different. My point is not that they are the same, just equally bad. Plus, I was talking about if he was fired, not what has already happened, which is that a tactless booster ran his mouth. Main point is that it's hard for me to ever blame a decision made by another AA without remembering how we mistreated Cremins and how ashamed it made me of Georgia Tech. It's why I hardly care about the hoops program anymore.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted about Cremins on this thread. I know that many folks disagree with me on this topic.

I don't actually think we mistreated Cremins so we do disagree there. What I believe happened is that Braine talking with him made the point clear to them both that the school and Bobby needed a change. He loved Tech enough that he agreed it was best for all parties. Bowden isn't there at this point. Also it wasn't just a booster running his mouth, it was the chair of the FSU Board of Trustees. Big difference.

You are absolutely right about the words in bold. Again, I was only comparing the idea of FSU firing him to what we did to Cremins. I didn't intend to compare what the chairman of the BOT did to anything.

The fact that Cremins may have agreed to walk out the door when he was shown to it doesn't make right what happened to him. As if he could have said, "No, Dave, I disagree, I don't think I should leave," and kept his job. Furthermore, his replacement is nothing - NOTHING - compared to what Bobby Cremins was and is. He is a legend and a great guy and an icon of the sport, and we ran him off over a couple of off years and it was wrong and it still makes me angry to think about it. I would cheer for a Cremins-coached team to beat Tech any day and it would be a no-brainer decision for me. :twocents:

With the highest respect to Bobby Dodd, he took over a program already with national championships and much history. Bobby Bowden basically made Florida State from scratch. He's probably on a higher plane with FSU than Bobby Dodd was with GT. Even then, the sense of entitlement is amazing. The selective acceptance of the rules of the business is galling. Cremins did the right thing for GT. I will always have the highest regard for him because he put GT ahead of himself. Regardless of whether or not he should of been asked to stepped down is irrelevant now... Cremins did the right thing. Bobby Bowden isn't.

And I'd be happy to turn the pic into a link if ya'll can tell me how to do it. Believe me, the current pic is worth seeing in full size.

If you listened to PJ's press conference, he bascically had the same opinion as this writer.

If St. Bobby wasn't such a slimeball through the years, I'd feel bad for him. In a normal situation, at a normal school, with normal fans, I'd think that there could be an amicable solution to this. But FSU is a football factory parading about as a joke of a college, and St. Bobby is basically getting the returns on the culture he developed. This is what happens when you value winning over integrity. He's sticking around to beat Paterno, but Paterno will die coaching.

I think Paterno is a good comparison in this situation. A few years back, JoePa was getting hammered by the media, but the school stuck by him. He turned it around. Although, having been around Penn State fans, I can see them turning into the vultures that are currently circling the dying man known as FSU football.

I cannot wait to put the final nail in the coffin on Saturday.

The difference is BB won championships and didnt have a losing record in the conference.

First of all, it's a little bit easier to have a winning record in ACC football than in ACC basketball, especially when you have the talent edge that FSU has. By the way, Cremins won the ACC tournament three times while Dean Smith was coaching UNC and Coack K was at Duke.

Let that last sentence sink in for a second.

Second of all, we replaced Cremins with someone who is also having losing seasons in the conference and who has never won the ACC tournament.

Not sure how we turned this into a Cremins discussion. The point about Bowden though is he basically created the FSU program and at one time was arguably the best program in the country. Yes h'es fallen off, but his worst record so far has been 8-4. No last place finishes, no play in games in the ACCT, etc. No comparison between the two and where they took their respective programs as much as I still love Bobby C.
