This is what makes me disgusted about college football

I disagree. There is a comparison. Cremins put Tech hoops on the map. And his dismissal is more upsetting than Bowden's would be because Bowden is obviously at a point where he's too old and too weak to do anything. He's just an old wrinkled blob occupying an office and a lockerroom. You and I have as much influence over that team as Bowden does. Did you see that pep talk on youtube?

I may be in the minority but I think Bowden has earned some leeway here in deciding when he is going to retire. Perhaps this is because I became a GT fan and a college football fan during the glory years of FSU. Those guys would bring pain to people.

BB built tht team from scratch. Sure, he should be moving on, but don't disrespect the guy pushing him out the door like this. The problems with the FSU program are not solely Bobby Bowden.

I understand that the situations are different. My point is not that they are the same, just equally bad. Plus, I was talking about if he was fired, not what has already happened, which is that a tactless booster ran his mouth. Main point is that it's hard for me to ever blame a decision made by another AA without remembering how we mistreated Cremins and how ashamed it made me of Georgia Tech. It's why I hardly care about the hoops program anymore.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted about Cremins on this thread. I know that many folks disagree with me on this topic.

Can you share with us, in your opinion, what was so distasteful about how Cremins was mistreated? From what I remember, it was done mostly behind the scenes, and no one was threatening to torch Coach's house. But it was a while ago, and I was younger in those days and didn't pay much attention to these types of things. Thanks.

Also, I would expect CPJ to support Bobby and the writer's angle fully because of two things:
1. It would be a sign of disrespect for CPJ to say anything to suggest otherwise.
2. CPJ is a part of the coaching fraternity himself, and he's just protecting one of his own.

This guy goes on a ramble about what Bobby Bowden has done for FSU and how they were nothing before him, and how no fan has the right to question him about when he leaves Florida State. WTF?! Aren't we the fans the ones that write the checks for these coaches? If we don't have say, who does?

Bobby Bowden, and all these idiot head coaches in major college football, get tons of money thrown at them to win games. If they lose, they are thrown out a job like a dog. If they win, they are treated like utter royalty. This is the business of the game. The coaches are more than willing to accept this for the chance to make millions. They know what the deal is. Yet when we as the patrons of their "empires" feel displeased, and judgment time comes, the rules don't apply? Since when does doing your job well mean that you are above criti**** or reproach? And these dip**** writers keep this pure, unblemished thought of a college football utopia alive? I see... it's only a business when it comes to getting the most money, but it is a pure, amateur organization the rest of the time.

Eff these writers, these coaches, these ADs, and all the power brokers of college football. **** you all. You want your cake and eat it too? **** you.

And who gives the money to pay the AD and the rest of the department? You and I. I didn't say we the fans run things, or that we even should. What I am calling BS on is the idea that we don't have a right to voice our opinions. Look, we give our money to GT in good faith that the right people will be hired to make the Institution as successful as possible. We hope that people like Radakovich will be hired that will represent all of us as a whole.

Now, every fan is going to have their own opinion on a given subject, therefore, we need people like DRad to listen to our opinions, and then look at the big picture and decide what is best for Tech. Not every fan will get their way every time, but I think all of us are reasonable enough to understand that's not gonna happen anyway, so we are willing to bend a bit. But in the end, we have a right to make our voices heard. It's up to the people who we chose to represent Georgia Tech to make the best decisions based on these voices.

FSU's decline is somehow tied to the deal they made with the devil over Jimbo Fischer. Very weird deal that profits somebody that nobody cares about. Why would you do something like that unless you were an idiot or under pressure? I don't see Jimbo being any sexier than Dabo. Something rotten there.

I can't get "passionate" about the sentiment that "College football is just a business!". That is the very definition of dispassion.

Exactly! And that includes voicing the "opinion" that individuals who literally built a program should be given some loyalty.

The comparison to Bobby Dodd is apropos as would be a comparison to Eddie Robinson.

If Cremins had said "no" then GT may have been in a similar situation. As it turned out I think it was handled as well as could be expected and we have given Cremins the credit he was due.

For a few years after Hewitt was hired, I was sure Cremins' departure was the right thing. In hindsight now, I seriously wonder if we might have been better riding out the rough patch with Cremins. Could he have turned it around?

I think one of the ideas is that because there is no real leader at the top, nobody is running the team. A bunch of cooks in the kitchen, fighting over everything. If Jimbo is fighting with monster-tits about something, how do they get it resolved? Ask Bobby? Bobby doesn't know what he ate for lunch. Bobby calls his wife, "that old gal who lives at my house." Bobby thinks that his quarterback is Chris Weinke. Bobby thinks that the Daytona 500 is a recruit ranking service. Bobby Bowden drives with his blinker on at all times. You have to have a leader and FSU ain't got one. That's why they're talking about getting Jimbo more authority I'd think.
