This just in Mark Richt is a total ass hat...

It's not just in...but alabama only has one loss and it's to the now #1 team in the nation. If it had happened at the beginning of the year...they'd be in.

Eh, I don't know. I doubt folks would be very enthused about a NC match-up of two teams from the same conference. Texas and Oklahoma aren't exactly terrible

:laugher::laugher::laugher:

But before we begin, let’s give a round of applause to the Harris Interactive Poll voters, who made a valiant effort all season to out-moron the coaches. Reading the “others receiving votes” part of the Harris poll was a nonstop source of comedy for the entire season. LSU, on a four-game SEC losing streak, is still receiving votes. Tennessee received a vote in Week 5, which was tremendous.

Recall that Alabama and Florida both stomped a mudhole in Richt's butt, and you may sympathize with his view. Many coaches would try to get revenge on teams that laid embarrassing losses like that on their team, but Richt chose to respect them and he deserves credit for that.

Plus, the Big XII is full of fairies, can't play defense, and has no non-conference wins of significance. The only decent non-conference wins for the entire 12-team conference are Oklahoma over Cincinnati and Oklahoma over TCU.

i heard one of the talking heads say that UF and UA both played top 27 defensive teams in 9 out of their 12 games.

where oklahoma played 1 top 35 defensive team(must be UT).

something to that effect...might not be 100 percent accurate but 100 percent how i remember it.

Don't forget that this could also be a function of largely inept SEC offenses and very effective Big XII offenses. Most likely the real answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two.

Agreed.

SEC Defenses OOC: We dropped 45 on the pups and 38 on Miss St., Wake hung 30 on Ole Miss, Clemson's 31 on SC, WVU's 34 on Auburn, Texas puts 52 on Arkansas, UCLA's pathetic offense got 27 through Tennessee, and LSU's D is in a down year.

Not to say that Big XII defenses have a whole lot going for them.

Kincade was throwing that stat around a lot yesterday. Let's flip the argument around some. Oklahoma played 6 teams who were top 30 in scoring offense (Texas Tech 4, Texas 5, Missouri 6, Oklahoma State 8, TCU 20 and Kansas State 21). Florida played 2 teams in the top 30 (Georgia 29 and Alabama 30).

Edit: Make that 8 teams for OU. I forgot to throw in Kansas at 27 and Nebraska at 18.

Mark Richt isn't any bigger an asshat than the FOUR Big 12 coaches who voted for a Texas/Oklahoma national championship.

Bama lost to a great team (at a neutral site) - only undefeated regular season team in this group
Ok lost to a great team (at a neutral site)
TX lost to a really good team (on the road)
FL lost to an average team (at home)
TT got whooped by a great team (on the road)

By virtue of their loses, Bama and Ok should be playing for in the CG. But no one would reasonably say that Bama should get a shot instead of Fl. That is why we need a playoff. Or do away with the BCS and just go back to bowl games and the endless arguing over who is the REAL champ.

How can you argue with that opinion being better or worse than any other? Alabama was the only BCS conference team to finish the regular season undefeated. Their only loss was a close game to the #1 team. Seriously.

Alabama very well could be the #2 team in the nation, depending on how the UF-OU game turns out. But a Bama-UF or OU-UT championship game would have been beyond asinine. You might as well crown a Big 12 champion and a SEC champion instead of a national champion.

There are lots of good arguments in here about better offense and better defense, but I think the bottom line isn't who you lose to but when you lose. Obviously Alabama's 1 loss and Oklahoma's one loss are the most understandable, so is UT's. It is just a matter of when you lose in college football, bottom line. Really the only realistic way to play for the National Title is lose early not late, and win your conference, but this isn't an argument that can be settled in writing I think we can all agree to that.
