Threet to Michigan

The kid comes across as spoiled to me. Commitments don't cease to be commitments because a seemingly better opportunity presents itself. Georgia Tech invested in this kid and he gave us no return.

are you kidding me??? the kid bailed on us because of a girlfriend!!! let me remind you he wants a late withdrawl?? NO F**KING WAY!!! kid needs to grow a sack and finish what he started, be a man and finish your 4 more weeks out in atlanta. i wont give him any credit for anything he did while at GT. bottom line.

Just curious, but what does whether you give him credit for anything...in particular because he never played a down mean or have to do with anything? The young man doesn't want to be here. That's fine. As far as I'm concerned, if he doesn't want to be here I don't want him here either. He would never amount to anything with that attitude and could only be a divisive factor on the team. We're better off that he's leaving now if this is his decision.

The late withdrawal issue should be something that the athletic dept stays out of. If he can get out without penalty through the normal academic process, fine. If not, he fails the classes.

Hate to say it, but what did you ever do for Threet that let's you be so angry at him? Life's too short to get mad at what an 18 year old kid decides for his life, as immature as it may be.

when people are TALKING people up on the front end it is based on potential. Not until practice/game play an you REALLY feel confident a player (especially a QB) will perform at a high level.

Coming out of high school Suggs was a top QB and Godsey was NOT.

So a certain bit "oh well" wish him the best is not hypocritical. I think many would rather go through this than a meltdown at a later date. We have too many quality QB's left to worry yet.

Personally, I wouldn't say that I am mad at the kid. However, if you are not with us then you are against us. Every team in the country, that is not called Georgia Tech, is potentially between us and a national title. I am not a Michigan fan, therefore, I am not a Steven Threet fan any longer. I wish him the best, but I'll hope for his success or failure based on how it may effect my team.

I agree with you here; but my vote is to not grant the late withdrawl. There were plenty of times at GT I would have loved to have had a late withdrawl from classes; but had to ride it out and watch my GPA suffer. Granting a late withdrawl due to some sort of hardship is one thing; but this is just a kid who changed his mind. I vote 'No' to late withdrawl for reasons totally unrelated to football.

I have to agree that when you commit to a school, you permanently change the recruiting priorities, etc. To leave suddenly does have an effect and hence why rules are in place to not allow it to happen too easily. It also smacks of negotiating with UM ahead of time, which is problematic in its own and if not reigned in will be ugly for the NCAA down teh road.

Otherwise I wish the kid well.

There is much about this young man's character that has been revealed in this situation, especially the lack of completing this summer's classes. You and I never got that sort of break at GT. I have always said I don't want breaks for jocks. The kid needs failing grades. Those are the rules. PERIOD.

That said, the cupboard is not bare. I am also really interested to see what Nesbitt looks like, although I will freely admit that Threet didn't look like a HS kid by the final spring practice.

Got to figure that his parents are not thrilled, given that they bought a place down here (unless they are loaded...and if so, THEY should pay for his college education, anyway!). Oh well, remember:

LIFE IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAD MADE OTHER PLANS.

Noob here... This is my first post... I completely agree here. The thing that erks me about this whole thing is that there were kids who would have come to GT on his scholarship and worked their tail off, allowed themselves to be coached, and become excellent student-athletes. His decision was immature and premature, IMO. But I will wish him the best and say SAYONARA...

sorry if i came across angry but people are patting this kid on the back and saying "its ok, we'll give you a free pass because you helped our recruiting". THATS GARBAGE

Threet didn't do much in helping recruiting. Yeah, he talked to alot of the guys and became friends with them, but it was mostly guys like Kyle Jackson and Roddy Jones that had a larger influence on recruits.

Ok, what else can be done? Hopefully, he is treated like another other student leaving school - nothing more, nothing less. I don't think he used GT and I'm not upset at his decision to leave (why should I be - it has zero impact on me) but I do think GT should treat him "fairly" in regards to dropping the classes mid-semester - he should treated the same as any other student.

He did help recruiting last year - at least that's what the people "in the know" were saying at the time. Now, it seems like folks are downplaying his effect on recruiting by saying it wasn't really him, it was others.

Well, if anything, it's RESOUNDING PROOF that the fellowship of the miserable's speculation that Threet quit due to Chan promising him playing time are entirely false.

Was down at Tech today and let's just say Threet made a good decision to go. He did see the writing on the wall and if he's not going to play then he might as well be closer to home.

Also had a chance to meet 007, very nice and engaging guy. He's very excited to be here feels very good about up coming season. Yes, he does know what a TE is LOL.

I guess you're talking about John Bond-O, the guy that's going to cover up the rust and holes left behind by Nix.

Bear with me - it's been a long week.
