Tim Byerly Letter

Good letter by Tim.

I am thinking of writing an open letter to the NCAA and stamping it with my taint.

Tim is a great kid from a great family, and has always been one of my favorites. Really sad that we won't get to see him play again, he's a stand up guy. Good head on his shoulders though.

Liked his thoughts about CPJ too:
Finally, Coach Johnson. You have been a life coach to me ever since my very first snap in spring practice of 2012 (of which I fumbled). I would give anything to play one more season under you, but I feel more than prepared to enter the real world. My comfort and peace is in large part due to your ability in helping me realize what it means to be a selfless team player, regardless of what the capacity may be. I cannot wait to apply that mentality to the business world. I will never forget you pointing at me on goal line/short yardage situations and saying, "You're in. Heavy Right 28 Solid Rebel."

Good stuff. It's nice to get an occasional reminder of what college athletics is really all about.

How was Bylerly denied a hardship exemption? What criteria does the NCAA use exactly? It certainly seemed early enough in the season.

it's probably because he transferred. I agree it's a little bit dumb.

Great letter. Great representative of GT. Wish the NCAA had given him the 6th yr of eligibility. Having said that, this will give Campbell a chance to be solid #2 and get some playing time next year before JT5 is gone.

Technically you're supposed to miss 2 seasons for circumstances beyond your control. He missed one season due to injury and another due to a redshirt. Other people have gotten by with that, so I'm not really sure why he (and some others) have been denied.

What a great letter by a great young man. Every time I get a little down as a Tech fan, something happens that makes me so thankful to be a Yellow Jacket.

I really appreciated what he said about Coach Johnson. Paul Johnson is a blessing to Tech, and he is a special blessing to the players on our team.

I wonder what Leonard Pope wrote when he left UGAg?

I'd love to see someone challenge that decision in court by claiming that he indeed did miss 2 seasons due to circumstances beyond his control. One for injury. Another because they wouldn't let him play since they forced him to sit out a year after transferring from MTSU.

I mean, it's obviously a great decision to keep a kid who's a career backup and a Dean's List scholar from getting another year of eligibility after an injury but let Terrell Pryor and 4 other athletes from Ohio State receive extra benefits and cheat...and make him sit out 5 games. Yeah. That makes sense.

This might be one of those "when I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things" kinda moments. It seems to me Tim has eagerly turned the page and is ready for the next chapter.
öööö good Jacket!

Where's the slow clap gif when I need one? Because this time, it won't be done in irony or sarcasm. Just a truly heartfelt slow clap for a great student-athlete.

He wasn't forced to transfer therefore sitting out was in his control. But many players get a waiver their last year with a second game injury. So its dumb.

Thank you Tim for representing the Institute well and for all the hard work you put in on and off the field.

Anybody else notice he made the G in THWG lower case? Little subtle dig, perhaps?

Scanners don't OCR crayon very well... We'll never know.

(Sorry. Low lying fruit)

EDIT: Tim seems to have a great head on his shoulders. He'll be missed. Thanks for the great years!

Tim is definitely my favorite non-starting player ever.

Also "Heavy Right 28 Solid Rebel" sounds like a man play. I'll bet every single Paul Johnson play call for Tim was like this.

Here's a game, list other probable Paul Johnson play calls for Tim Byerly:

I'll open with "Sawed-off Middle 15 Whiskey Shots"
