TO and TQM UNC triple plays

Am I the only person who doesn’t like referring to it as “the triple option “? It’s either an inside veer or an outside veer.

And I’ve seen b
Yeah idk. The play is literally inside/outside veer, but if coach calls it triple, I don't think we should get our panties in a bunch when posters call it triple.

From what I have seen, there are some terminology differences. I've seen inside veer described very much like CPJ's midline and I've also seen it described very much like CPJ's triple option.

I'm not an expert, but if someone described the veer like the midline, that's incorrect. We run a midline and pretty sure mostly the inside veer, as well as that speed option that I haven't seen this year. The midline is what ate Clemson alive a few years ago and what we ran against VPI with TO. The midline only has two options, dive or keep.

ACC has the worst game analysts. I literally have to mute the TV after a while.

I half-listened to the game while fast forwarding through and watching certain plays last night. Takeo Spikes is terrible. Seemed like he just rattled off all the same talking points (assignment football, steal possessions) and screwed up player names so much the other guy started correcting him. Somehow they all also thought that the pass to Qua was TO's first completion, when in fact it wasn't even his first TD pass. Piss poor preparation all around.

Yeah this is the part that confuses me. Coach always says TO and never, ever mentions veer, yet we get corrected on this frequently on this board.
The announcers always dub our offense as "Paul Johnson's triple option offense.":biggrinangel:

TO missed an open receiver going into an end zone... but he hit a different one...
Yeah, I suspect it wasn't so much of a check down as it was a safety valve he threw to. Still, credit for making the throw and not getting sacked.

I've seen:

Outside veer = C-gap (usually with a tight end).
Inside veer = B-gap
Midline = A-gap

and

Outside veer = B-gap
Inside veer = A-gap
Midline = Straight over the center

Your terminology may vary. I can't say what terms are in common use among coaches.

We run a midline triple as well, but only against certain alignments.
