“Long and offensive line coach Brent Key will have to develop three new starters on the offensive line to replace left tackle Devin Cochran, center Mikey Minihan and right guard Ryan Johnson. Transfers Paul Tchio (Clemson) and Pierce Quick (Alabama) are among those who will compete for spots, along with returning starter Jordan Williams and returnees Paula Vaipulu and Weston Franklin.“

So Minihan isn’t coming back? Did I mis that or did Ken let something slip? Or did he mean Kenny Cooper and just put the wrong name?

Minihan is listed on the roster still.
Then again, so are Jamious Griffin and Adonicas Sanders.

Cooper is long gone.

One of those players listed in particular I hope got a lot of S&C and technique lessons in the off-season. It was ugly on the line.

Listening to gojackets.com podcast and they said Minihan is not coming back.

Having survived the Bill Lewis years this is the only thing I can compare to the feeling where the program feels like rock bottom. The only difference is we were just couple years after winning the national title so you knew there was talent on the roster and everything was related to coaching. Right now, its an oversimplification to point to the coaches. It should be known that the roster was depleted by the end of PJs run here. I say "should be known" because some people seem to insist this was not the case. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one. Looking at recruiting rankings is only a general way to analyze it because anywhere from 30th to 70th could be generally equal in talent depending upon how kids develop or transfer out. Its hard to say but clearly the NFL draft says we lacked something compared to most other P5 teams and upper tier GoF.

Assuming then coach didnt inherit great players, the skill position players can get fixed in a hurry but the OL, DL and QB positions take time and you better hope you didnt miss on the QB or you will really set your team back. Thus I didnt expect a fast fix but others wanted wins by year two. However, year three I expected to see hope but the opposite happened. There feels like no hope now that the CFB environment has completely changed with NIL and free transfers. It feels like a system that was already against us now is impossible to survive. I think blaming all of this on Collins is just too easy. It's now way deeper than him and you arent bringing in anyone who can fix it.

first I've heard about Minihan abandoning ship....WTF happened?
Do we still have that elite OL from Norfolk State?
Oh wait,we were told he just needed some film for the NFL draft...which round is Kenneth Kirby projected?

He was hurt all year and exhausted his eligibility I believe.

Here’s another article from the AJC, but this is Schultz and isn’t as positive as Sugura’s article.

Thanks, i hadn't seen that.. Here's an exerpt where the closing paragraph rings true.
.

On Thursday, Collins took three straight questions about the coach and player exits.

Question: Do you believe the turnover qualifies as a statement of where things are in the program?

Answer: “The biggest thing is I’m excited about the people who have come in, the people who’ve joined the program.”

Question: The portal is a reality, but do you take it personally when so many players leave?

Answer: “There’s relationships that you build, and really, I talk about the love and the care that we have for the guys, the investment that we make. Even with the guys who’ve graduated, obviously, you hate to see them go, the guys who go to the NFL. You have such deep personal relationships with them. The same thing with guys who hop in the portal, you have love and care for them.”

Question: Do you take it as a rejection for the way you’ve done things?

Answer: “I do not. I just take it as, we love those guys, we care about those guys. If they feel there’s another situation they need to (explore), we counsel them, have conversations with them, but then you have to look to guys on your roster that you’re blessed every day to coach and focus on that and keep it moving.”

I understand a coach wanting to keep things positive in attitude and messaging. But Collins loses supporters when he’s less than genuine with his public comments. Would it hurt to respond: “I understand why those people left. We have not achieved what I hoped to at this point in time, and that’s on me. But I’m going to work hard to fulfill the expectations I had when I came here?”
