I got there just after Dwyer broke for his long touchdown run on the second play of the scrimmage, but after that it did not seem like the first O did much more. They were plagued with penalties throughout their drives. Additionally, it seemed like our first D was in the backfield all afternoon. There were several good plays but I dont think the first Offense was able to score another touchdown. They did set up a very nice 55 yard fieldgoal but I was not sure who kicked it. All in all the first O did ok but the penalties and constant pressure from the best D-Line in the ACC kept them from doing as well as the 2nd and 3rd O's. On a side note one of the first string O-linemen went down near the end of practice and again I was not able to see who it was.
The story of the day today for me was Jaybo Shaw. I have not been to any previous practices but from reading all the other reports it would seem to me that today was Jaybo's coming out party. I did not keep stats but I am pretty sure he run for 2 touchdowns and passed for 2 as well. He was just completely on his game today. His pitches and passes were sharp and he seemed to be making pretty good reads throughout. There were several 20+ pard plays on his drives both passing and running. His best pass and probably the best pass of the day was a 50 yd completion down the left side in the two minute drill. That then set up a practice ending field goal with time expiring. Jaybo had a nice play where the A-back broke down the field for a long run and somehow Jaybo ended up being the lead blocker and in doing so he totally leveled a safety on the 3 yardline enabling the back to score. (there ended up being a penalty on the play but it was still nice to see Jaybo put someone on their ass).
The biggest impression of the day, other than Jaybo, was the first defense. The offense couldn't do anything without being smothered. In the backfield and in the secondary it seemed like our first defense knew what was coming before it happened. Mario played today and seemed to do a pretty good job while he was in.
Sorry I lacked a lot of details but hope this gives you guys some idea of what today was like.
