I got there just after Dwyer broke for his long touchdown run on the second play of the scrimmage, but after that it did not seem like the first O did much more. They were plagued with penalties throughout their drives. Additionally, it seemed like our first D was in the backfield all afternoon. There were several good plays but I dont think the first Offense was able to score another touchdown. They did set up a very nice 55 yard fieldgoal but I was not sure who kicked it. All in all the first O did ok but the penalties and constant pressure from the best D-Line in the ACC kept them from doing as well as the 2nd and 3rd O's. On a side note one of the first string O-linemen went down near the end of practice and again I was not able to see who it was.

The story of the day today for me was Jaybo Shaw. I have not been to any previous practices but from reading all the other reports it would seem to me that today was Jaybo's coming out party. I did not keep stats but I am pretty sure he run for 2 touchdowns and passed for 2 as well. He was just completely on his game today. His pitches and passes were sharp and he seemed to be making pretty good reads throughout. There were several 20+ pard plays on his drives both passing and running. His best pass and probably the best pass of the day was a 50 yd completion down the left side in the two minute drill. That then set up a practice ending field goal with time expiring. Jaybo had a nice play where the A-back broke down the field for a long run and somehow Jaybo ended up being the lead blocker and in doing so he totally leveled a safety on the 3 yardline enabling the back to score. (there ended up being a penalty on the play but it was still nice to see Jaybo put someone on their ass).

The biggest impression of the day, other than Jaybo, was the first defense. The offense couldn't do anything without being smothered. In the backfield and in the secondary it seemed like our first defense knew what was coming before it happened. Mario played today and seemed to do a pretty good job while he was in.

Sorry I lacked a lot of details but hope this gives you guys some idea of what today was like.

Terrific report. That D line is gonna really be something this fall.

I hope some good things happen with our offensive line real soon. I sure would like to have RM2's opinion.

I don't think it was Dwyer although he did have a pretty good day. I think it was Allen.

Yeah Dwyer broke a 70 yarder. Allen had a great day as well. Looked REALLY good actually.

Blair hit that 52 yarder with room to spare. Looked nice.

Tevin Washington had a good day as well. Some good runs and a really nice read on a long pass. No floaters.

Some big hits today.

DB's were right there on every pass play. Even the ones that were long or there was a score, the reciever usually had to make a good play to haul it in. DBs looked to cover well.

I really enjoyed being there. I saw fridgemover
and Adamm Oliver walking around with his notebook.

It was fun to go to my first practice and to kick off the season at BDS.

Stars of the Day:

Jaybo played great. A lot of big plays. Not many mistakes.

Anthony Allen looked good. He looks a lot bigger than what his profile lists.

D-line (no brainer)

Brad Jefferson laid the smackdown on Dwyer as did Mario Edwards.

Receivers didnt catch a lot of balls today, but I think Melton will surprise people. He has great hands and body control-makes the first guy miss. I think he will beat out Earls.

Nesbitt had ok day. Defense was all in his face, but made some nice runs/passes off scrambles. Also had a 10yard run where he faked the pitch and D-Morgan fell down. It was nasty.

Definately saw improvement from T-Day, but we still have a ways to go IMO to keep the bowl streak alive.

BTW, defense ran nickel package today as the base defense on 2 series (not 2-min drill). Mario Edwards at FS, Burnett at SS, Reese played like a rover/bandit position. It may be the way to get our best 11 on the field.

Dwyer is what I heard...I believe B Jefferson is going to be a head hunter this year!!! Of the previous pratice reports before I have yet to hear much about M Burnett, I quess he is doing his thang- right?

If it wasn't Dwyer, then Allen was wearing a #21 jersey and tucked his dreads, LOL.

Burnett is "doing his thang"

That kid always looks good.

No one mentioned Lucas Cox? He ran up the middle for a few first downs on the second team O. Looked real good out there.

I agree with the original poster, the second team O was the real show this morning. Of course they didn't have to deal with Richard and Johnson. I would have loved to see the first team O playing the second team D for a couple of plays. Then we'd see some offense. But I guess I'll have to wait until Jacksonville State for that.

That was one of the most enjoyable plays of the "game".

Maybe we could talk him into growing his hair out so we could call him, "Sunshine"? :-Þ

I think youre talking about Preston Lyons #37. He did look good.

Lucas Cox played first team A-back most of the time.
Which reminds me...I hope Roddy and G Smith get healthy soon.

You might be right. Lucas Cox is #36, so I might have gotten them confused. Thanks for the clarification!

Like the OP said, Dwyer broke off a long TD on the second snap of the day. About 10 minutes later Athony Allen had one himself. Marcus Wright impressed me as well...very elusive and quick. Jaybo is very good at running the ball...he has a pretty nice spin move

Was definitely Dwyer according to Ramblinwreck.com. And Allen also had a long one too. Also there are some more stats and other information. Allen is not playing this season right? Too bad because he's very good. Definitely a starting B-back.

OK. But it wasn't #21 on the opening TD run. It may have been Dwyer wearing number 26 or so. I just don't care. Perhaps I was halllucinating. So there.
