Todd says things are bright for GT football

As to TStsn’s comments, didn’t we have a game PPD because of our COVID issues (the other team had em too)?
The Miami game scheduled for Dec 19 was canceled. Can't remember who had the issues but I think it was us.

I think once we show up next year and manhandle a few teams early, put some bowl-able wins under our belt, the mysterious penalties against us at key times will remarkably evaporate.

We will definitely manhandle teams on offense this year. Building a defense may take more time, but we'll be dangerous on defense.

I found it kinda funny T-Stan referenced the NC State game. That may have been the least watchable Tech game I’ve ever seen played.

There was a flag on every play for an entire quarter IIRC. Brutal to the casual observer...but nobody watches ACCN anyhow. Thanks to the big idiot John Swofford.

The rescheduled Miami game was not played because it was of no consequence and both programs had covid issues.

Its amazing that we played the games we did.

As I recall, the Miami game was the only one for which we shouldered part of the blame. Could be wrong, but usually I'm pretty good with remembering who to be angry at.

I think Miami cancelled the original game but we both agreed to cancel the 2nd one with both sides conceding some covid issues.

I think the cancelling of the Miami game was a message to the league. We would not play a game we did not have to where a GT win would not help the league and a GT loss would help the league and the league was bush enough to fix the games with the officials.

Seems like our QB got hurt late in the previous game and there was a chance that due to injuries we were also getting close to too thin to compete. Between COVID, injuries, getting late in the season, and the game not mattering, I think everybody just said “forget it, we’ll try again next year.”

The NC State game was the one where the announcer was giving a preview of what our play would be based on formation/personnel.

Was refusing to go to a bowl game another message?

I don't know. I think it was the right call. It would be embarrassing to go to a bowl with a losing record, and with COVID it was not worth the risk anyway just for a few ineffectual practices.

I think Tech should be able to hang within fitty against Clemson next year. Baby Steps!

Our roster is beginning to look like a P5 contender. It hasn’t looked like that in years.
imo, the most important objective with our roster is to solidify the OL and DL. The second most important objective is to raise the level of the weakest link (wherever that may be). Getting a guy that can split the uprights is important. And making sure the back 7 on D doesn't have an Achilles heel. If we can get these three things fixed we should be good for a winning season. If we can continue to improve beyond that, we can do some damage in the ACC.

GT needs to establish itself as a respected program at the national level. Seems to me, we are on track for that at least by 2022.

The pick-ups from the portal make it very clear to me that the staff is not willing to wait for the fruits of their stellar recruiting to blossom - they want to win now. I think this is a good thing.

Going at least .500 now is important for keeping up the recruiting momentum. It is hard to keep the 'we are building something special' mantra going if you are getting booty blasted by Syracuse in years 3&4. Got to show some progress on the field this year. Don't have to win the coastal; but need to look like a serious contender for it at mid-season.
