Tom Herman to USCe

For those of you who may be unaware, Jim McElwain at UF is in the Saban tree, and Herman is in the Urban Meyer tree.
 
Forde reports that he removed his name from consideration. Perhaps he believes a better job offer is coming.

Meh, it's not the worst gig in football. Beat Clemson every now & then and you're worshipped. Look at Spurrier - All those years there and he really only competed for an SEC LEAST Championship one year (where they got lapped by Auburn in the SECCG). Other than that, they were yearly also-rans...but he whipped Dabo's boys 5 IAR so he stayed as long as he wanted.

It's a pretty easy gig with a fan base very happy with 'mediocre'. 75,000+ every week show up to see that crappy team play.

You kind of defeated your own point. Spurrier took one of the worst P5 programs in the country and reeled off multiple 11 win seasons. He beat Clemson 5IAR and still got run out of town this year.

The USuCk fans I know personally believe they are a step or two away from being Alabama - seriously, they do.

this. they let there string of above-mediocrity get to their heads. they talk a big game now, and it's pretty annoying. They still haven't had a conference championship in over 40 years. they are a joke
 
Until Lou Holtz, South Carolina had a total of one bowl win in almost 100 years of football. They are delusional.

You've got those guys everywhere you go including here. Most Carolina fans I know are pretty down to earth when it comes to expectations. Spurrier did give them a pretty good run though.

Indeed. Though one school that's always seemed to have more of them than others is North Carolina. They're having a great year, but every time they taste a bit of success they're convinced that they're on the verge of becoming the next great dynasty. It's one thing for them to find a guy that can get them where Brown did, where Fedora has, but finding one who isn't going to bolt for a better job afterwards is a different matter entirely.
 
Apparently Herman is a Texas man through and through. I originally thought he would go for USCe right away but the. Learned about his Texas roots and figured he'd stay at Houston for a bit. If I were he, I would bet on Strong getting ousted relatively soon.
