..were very in line with what we expected from examining Navy stats.

Rushing 349 (7.6 per rush attempt)

Passing 135 (9 per attempt, 16 per completion)

8 of 15 isn't so hot, but it's certainly no worse than Reggie, and much more efficient, and no picks.

Total Yards 484, averaging 7.9 per play. Sheesh, when's the last time we saw that on the flats?

Clearly the worry is 5 fumbles, 2 lost. If we lost all 5, uggh, that'd be wretched, and if we fumble more than 5 vs a good team, ugggghhhhh, we'll be in for a loong night. This very well may kill us vs BC. Don't get your hopes up.

TOP was even, I pretty much expected that.

Our placekicking is wretched. Prepare to see PJ go for it a lot on 4th down, and we better hope we find a transfer who can placekick.

We gave JSU 13 total drives. That's not significantly different than previous eras.

agree about the fumbles, but the 2 lost ones weren't even triple option related so that's a plus I guess

Give placekicking some time, it's not always the kickers fault.

We are a bit light in bodies, it's quite obvious.

The biggest concern is our OL and LBer's IMO.

We gave them 13 drives because we scored a lot. When the offense gets rolling it should be slightly less while averaging 20-30 points a game.

My point was the idea that we'd only give the opposing team 8 or 9 drives per game really isn't going to pan out, even when things do work.

This is not a TOP offense.

I was wrong about several other things, as well, based on what I've posted in the past few months after researching. We pass more than I thought, but we don't complete as many passes as I thought. I wonder if we're not passing to cover up our deficiencies running the option. We also are doing short out route passes, which I was very surprised about. But they often worked, so I can't complain.

Very astute about passing to mask our problems with the option-might also be to deny BC film on our offense.

I think we will get our heads handed to us in Boston. Look for the line to be something like BC -11 or 12. We have a long way to go before we are an average team.
I definitely didn't come out feeling this way, but I don't feel like we'll be getting out of BC as easily as I did before. It may be a little low scoring, honestly but I look for us to heat up before they do and I think maybe that gives us the win.

I certainly didn't think we were any worse than average, frustrated though I was by our errors.

We passed more than I anticipated and those passes were OPEN. With a little more accuracy the game would have been blown apart in the first few minutes.

I was happy to see something different than the Navy offense. When receivers are that open we don't need pinpoint accuracy, but we do need to throw a catchable ball.

Altogether, I was left cautiously optimistic for the season.

I doubt that. There's a decade of film on PJ teams running "flexbone midline option" and "flexbone outside veer" and "flexbone inside veer." Those 3 are the core of PJ's system, and they're the ones we had the problems with. Just haven't practiced them enough I think.

I mean, some of them looked great. But sometimes we booched them up and killed the play ourselves.

I think the BC game is a coin flip. We are not as good as I'd hoped, but BC isn't supposed to be that great either. We're going to get slaughtered by VT though.

The first half was fine --save for the missed PAT.

The third quarter got off to an immediate bad start and it seemed like a bit of focus and concentration was lost. Jaybo looked alright but he definitely struggled on some handoffs.

Against a team like JSU it's hard to get a gauge on things overall. I left feeling like I just watched a glorified dress rehearsal practice game.

We'll know much more about this team in the coming weeks. Always good to get a win though --no mater the circumstances.

1 down, 12 to go.

These kids are going to get it. Hard to say when, but with option heavy offenses that I've seen, it just "clicks" sometimes, maybe in practice, maybe in a game, and then just rolls.

They'll be fumbles, and such, but I think we showed tonight we're pretty good at getting on the loose balls.

Biggest stat of the game: ONE PUNT FOR GT

I love this quote:

"There's just too many issues with this offense for people to deal with," Crowe said. "We had two and a half weeks to deal with it. The rest of these folks will get two days. Good luck, ACC."

We will discuss this all week but just one thing: There was a report that BC defense outscored offense in a scrimmage, so they are not doing too good either. We will see soon..

I can see why PJ likes the option. It seemed like every outside option was 7+ yards. This, of course, was set up by the B-backs the whole game. Our passing was not that sharp at times, but it was open as hell. The thing I liked most about the O, was I couldn't predict what the next play was. I haven't been able to do that since Friedgen (sp?). I likey.

Defense. Nice job MB, you da' man. Derrick Morgan had a bast, too. Damn good ball game, guys.

Special Teams, for the most part they were, um, "special". Saw some good kick-offs, after about 10 of them. At least they have something to focus on for the next week, like catching, coverage, snaps, and kicking harder than granny.

It's post game and I shouldn't be awake. I'm out.

Absolutely agree. Very glad to see the B back play, even when it only went for a yard or two, because it helped open up Dwyer and also every now and then would bust open for a huge gain. I know JSU's DL isn't as good as some other teams we'll play, but on the whole there aren't a lot of teams with great DL presence in the ACC to worry about.

It would appear the O has progressed leaps and bounds since spring, and we had a true frosh QB basically the entire second half.

Throwing game has great potential.

Georgia Tech has NEVER had backs blocking downfield like that.

O is fun to watch.

D needs more pressure on QB (course we aren't blitzing every down either.)

Biggest thing is I don't think CPJ's teams will have an attitude problem. They know exactly what is expected of them, and what they can expect from their coaches.

And I think we once again will have Tech teams that improve as the year goes on.

Really..5 fumbles?

The only one I really remember from the first team was the one that Dwyer lost. I think there was another one that Voss recovered.

I thought the 1st team offense looked really good in not turning the ball over.

Edit: Okay, so apparently Nesbitt fumbled a snap and still scored. Couldn't see that from my seats.

5 fumbles.

Nesbitt fumbled the exchange, then recovered it and dove forward for a TD.

Nesbitt and Dwyer goofed an exchange at the end of the first half.

We fumbled a pooch kick at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to give the ball back to J State. (in pretty Gaileyesque fashion I might add)

Quincy Kelley fumbled a hand off towards the end of the third quarter, but it was recovered by Voss.

Dwyer dropped a Jaybo handoff for a fumble at the beginning of th 4th quarter.

We only lost 2, but we've got to get better at ball security. If we fumble 5 times vs J State, imagine how many times we'll fumble vs someone who doesn't suck.
