Who do you think will be this year's breakout players? Pick one for each side of the ball and a top newcomer. Here's mine.

Offense- Roddy Jones. There were many times during practice last year where RJ was just as good as Choice and he's faster than Choice.

Defense- Brad Jefferson. He hits hard and has good size. He started on special teams last year. I think he'll be another Keyaron Fox or Gerris Wilkinson.

Top Newcomer-... I gotta go with incoming freshman Marcus Wright. I seen some videos of him when he was in high school and dang he has amazing speed and he's a game changing player that can break away anytime. He reminds me of Noel Divine from West VA and CJ Spiller from Clemson. Except for Wright's not as big as Spiller but he's not afraid to take a hit either.

O- Jon Dwyer. I know we have already seen what he can do (kinda) but I think with him being the feature back, he's gonna put up some huge yards.

D- Morgan Burnett. Once again, we have seen what he can do partially. I think he earns first-team ALL-ACC and All-American (2nd team probably).

Newcomer- Marcus Wright

Defense - Morgan Burnett

Offense - Roddy Jones

New Comer - Wright

defense - burnett
offense - dwyer

newcomer - wright

defense - burnett
offense - dwyer

newcomer - wright

I really like the above choices, but to be different I think I will pick two more outstanding football players and another newcomer with real potential:

Offense: Josh Nesbitt

Defense: Derrick Morgan

Newcomer: Richard Watson

Defense: Michael Johnson. I don't think we've seen the best he has to offer yet. Which is frightening.

Offense: Correy Earls.

New guy: Quentin Sims. You heard it here first.

Offense- Greg Smith. I can see Greg getting 500+ receiving and 500+ rushing. He'll be a RB/WR hybrid, and will work many LB's in the passing game
Defense- AT Barnes. I see Morgan as an established playmaker already. AT lit up Spiller/Davis in the Clemson game and he should have gotten more PT in Bowen's spot IMO. Freak speed and size, he needs to be a monster for us.
Newcomer- McKayhan. I work with a guy whose son played with this kid. He said he was the best athlete on the team. Played RB,WR, DB, KR, and PR. Also played some QB when the starter was hurt. He said about the 4th game on, teams stopped punting to him. I can see this kid being our PR and backup at WR.
ST- Blair continues the tradition of solid PK's.
Coaching- Paul Johnson. He's a bad mofo

I definitely think Burnett & Dwyer have shown that they will be future leaders. IMO, they are not candidates for breakout. Burnett broke out for me on the last play of the first half in his first game. Dwyer has already racked up 9 touchdowns.

I hope Nesbitt is our breakout offensive player. If he isn't , we're in trouble!

Morgan needs to break out, as well. Unfortunately, for me, his most memorable play was an offsides against UVA, last year.

AT Barnes was a stud against Clemson, last year. He is an excellent candidate for breakout. I'll be looking for him to break out like K-Mike did his sophomore year.

Greg Smith is a good candidate for O-breakout. However, I would rather Nesbitt break out.

Nobody has mentioned Darryl Richard. We all know he's talented and intelligent. He has always been a rock for us. However, he really only had one spurt where we were constantly hearing his name over the PA. I think he'll have a big year. It may not be considered a breakout, but I do think it will be a much bigger year for him. It will be a similar situation for Michael Johnson. Except, Michael Johnson has been a visible, emotional leader for us. I think he is less a candidate for "breakout" than Richard. Although, I do feel that this will be his best year, as well.

I will reiterate that Jefferson will be the youngest breakout player on defense. I would love to see Word-Daniels, or Mario Butler, break out, though. A DB breakout to complement Burnett would be nice.

does Tarrant have to break out? i didnt think he was in the can yet

Offense - AJ Green
Defense - Reshad Jones

I watched AJ Green on TV....He was shut down by the corner from Booker T Washington. He will have to mature physically before he is successful at D1 level.

Reshad Jones is stupid....stupid like your father.

Here is what I think . . .

. . . after watching spring practice. On defense I think the breakout player this year will be Dominique Reese. He has a nose for the ball and is very athletic. Tarrant's trouble equals more opportunity for Reese.

On Offense, I think the Baby Bull Lucas Cox will be a pleasant surprise. Could be Quincey Kelly too. Both these men are big and bad and move the pile backwards when they hit the hole.

Newcomer, i predict Uzzi will be somewhat of a standout at the Center or Guard position.

Go Jackets!
