I think Coach Johnson is intentionally getting a stable of QB's in because it will take different kind of QB to run our offense effectively and we will need depth. High school football may not readily reveal who is capable of running this offense well. Plus, the depth is required because your QB will take some hits at high speed. So, I think seven or eight QB's in order to find three or four who can run the offense well is not overkill. Some will shift positions and some will transfer. That's no different from what we have seen in past years under Gailey.
When I remember Pepper's wishbone offense I recall that Danny Myers out of Henderson was a terrific option QB for us and Mike Johnson out of Lakeside never had a chance in an option system. Coming out of high school no one could have seen that coming. I also remember Gary Lanier running the option offense well enough to beat Auburn and Notre Dame. I can't see him playing in any offense other than an option offense. Finally, Pepper had seasons where lack of depth in option QB's really hurt him - he had to move Bucky Shamburger from RB to play QB.
