Tough Day for the Leaky Roof Apologists..

For the number of upper classmen on our team, we shouldn't have this kind of swinging between series.

I'm sure depth is a factor, but it feels like there's a coaching issue.

"Feels"? no feelings needed. You're right - this many upper classmen stinking up the joint is on the coaches.

The problem with Roof is he doesn’t know how to get a defense hyped. We need something similar to the Dwag’s shoulder pads, Tenn trash can or Miami gold chain. What fits? A calculus text book and nerdy glasses every time we get a turn over?

Thank Heaven the French dropped 43 passes in the first half!

Even our best year with this HC we lost to puke and unc (giants of college football the last 60 years).

This is starting to feel (thanks to ugag potential run to NC game) somewhat like 1980. At least in 1980 we were with a 1st year coach, with bad recruiting classes he inherited, and a LOT tougher schedule than now.

We are now in year 10 of intransigent Coaching, dirty OL blocking, putting our kids in bad position for their talents only to try and glorify a coaches’ HS O.

Only hope is to beat ugag.

Barely 200 yds rushing against the Cadavers. D basically scored 14 pts. O gave up 9 pts.

Sheesh, this is lame.

Some more stats. Cavs scoring drives
7 plays, 16 yards, FG (kickoff return to GT 34 yard line)
5 plays, 38 yards, FG (kickoff return to GT 43 yard line)
0 plays, 0 yards, TD (Kickoff Return for TD)
8 plays, 78 yards, TD (ouch, drive started at UVA 22 yard line)
2 plays, 30 yards, TD (after interception)
7 plays, 28 yards, FG (started at GT 43 yard line)
5 plays, 64 yards, TD (started at UVA 36 yard line)

Forced 9 punts with 6 three-and-outs. Returned a fumble recovery to the 14 to set up a TD and returned a pick for a TD.

Allowed 2 scoring drives that started on the UVA side of the field. Couldn't get a stop when we needed it the most.

I'm not all in for Ted Roof and think the defense can share the blame. A stop on the final UVA drive and we escape with a win.

While I'm at it, here's the Tech offense second half drives:

1 play, 78 yards, TD (Marshall long run to open the second half)
2 plays, 1 yard, interception
3 plays, 3 yards, punt
10 plays, 41 yards, punt (held the ball for 5:49 - breather for the defense, but no points)
3 plays, -7 yards, punt
1 play, 0 yards, interception
1 play, -3 yards, safety
9 plays, 90 yards, TD (4:00 TOP)
9 plays, 39 yards, turnover on downs to lose the game.

That is a long stretch without moving the ball. One real drive with 3 first downs between the first play of the second half and 7:10 to go in the game. Thats rough.

Final thought: almost the same scenario happened to end a game in Blacksburg and Tevin Washington was assigned the blame. We score the go ahead TD with 4 minutes left, allow a TD, then cannot score on the final drive.

I remember that VT game. Another painful memory in a brain full of them.

There's plenty of blame to go around today, but there's no doubt in my mind that the offense played more standard deviations below its potential than the defense did.

Just saw a Ted Roof defense play in the NFL. Watch the last play of the first half, Cowboys vs Chiefs game. I could swear that Dallas had their defense play called by our Ted Roof.

Did it seem like the coordinator left the booth during the last 2 minutes of the half and the defense defaulted to prevent?

Because that was our games feel like.

What was wrong with the play call? They had 7 guys between the receiver and the end zone. Not the coach's fault that they didn't tackle.

I thought everything was the coach’s responsibility? Shoulda coached em up?

Defense sucked, offense sucked, special teams sucked and the play calling by the coaches sucked. Total team effort.

Re: Had no impact on the team's performance.

Re:
Got it.
Apologists are a collective, but defeatists are not.
Fans have no impact on a team performance, there is no home field advantage.
There is no collective consciousness or unconscious. Carl Jung was an idiot.

Your feelings are fair and warranted, I just feel you could lighten up. It's been a week, your butt cheeks gotta be getting close to being back together.

"After all, my dear Scarlett, tomorrow's another day."

Forget about firing Roof. It’s just not going to happen. Regardless, Roof is only a symptom of the problem. Everyone knows there is a couple other coaches that just aren’t pulling their weight.

Can we just stop making dumb threads like this one? Perhaps wait until the end of the season at least? Johnson will then be under the gun to make some staff changes.

Can we stop making dumb threads? Are you new around here? :shady:
