Problem is that very rotation is mostly graduating. Biggers, Makius, and Gore are all gone on the interior. On the ends, Sylvain, Josh Robinson, and Kevin Harris are also graduating.

Romello and VDB can't do it all by themselves, and Iloh and Marshall have yet to play a live snap. Lockett would have played a lot in 2025.

Yeah. Unfortunately, unless we miraculously pull in a whole new DL, it looks like this was our chance to beat UGA for the next couple years.

Completely agree. We lost some pretty good DL over the last couple of years but found some diamonds through the portal i.e., Van den Berg and Height. Our defensive stats were so much better this year. Santucci or the stalwart transfers?

Jason Moore had passed Lockett on the depth chart. He is still here another year too. We were planning to go after 1-2 experienced DT in the portal whether he stayed or not. Portal guys would likely be starting over him. My bet is he would be in battles for 2 deep with Shymeik Jones, Uche Iloh, and Landen Marshall next year. Like others have mentioned, going into the portal isn't a finality either, he could very well end up staying.

This is what gives me hope. Our DL portal pickups last year were great: Height, Van den Berg, and Gore were all big contributors. If we can hold the former two guys, make a couple good portal pickups, and develop guys we have, we might be able to manage a good DL.

I just hope the staff sees that DL is the position of urgent need.

Holy Debbie downer Batman! The DL wasn’t what influenced the outcome of this game, and it won’t be what decides the next either. This staff is building something special, and it’s progress that everyone should be able to see.

It does seem that most of our success against uga has come from a high powered offense outscoring them than a defensive struggle. At least since 1969 that is.
 
The unknown part of portal traffic is how many have been encouraged to move on. We cannot assume that every name in the portal is there because of their own choice and against the wishes of the coaching staff. I am sure it is a delicate conversation, but I imagine coaches let players know they might get better playing opportunities elsewhere, knowing this frees up a roster spot they can use for a transfer or freshman to come in they may believe may add more to the program.

We had a miss on a DL portal pickup too last year - the kid from FSU who didn't even last through spring practice. We had a DL transfer in from Clemson who also never played and then hit the door out.
We've had some hits. Had some swings and misses too along the way.

I'm just trying to pull the fire alarm about the DL situation because that is in my opinion the biggest threat to us not having a good next season.

The DL held their own against Georgia, with the defense forcing 3 punts versus our 1 punt, and not allowing 5/7 two point attempts. It could be better but it could also be a lot worse.
 
I really think we are gonna get some talent on defense in the portal. I think we put ourselves on the map a bit this season. I have no insider information to suggest this is the truth.

Gotta make sure the Referee bagman funding is in place also.
